Technical Update #16: $400k, new last-minute stretch goals, and shipping dates

Posted by Ankama (Creator)

The Final Stretch Goals are Unlocked!

Some said it couldn't be done, but with less than 24 hours left to go, you have accomplished the remarkable feat of raising over $400,000, which means that this Kickstarter has left the realm of simply dubbing existing materials... Now, thanks to your dedication, this campaign will be producing at least one brand-new episode of Wakfu!

"At least one?" you might ask.

"Oh yes..." we reply. "Because although it might seem impossible, we have prepared not one, not two, but three additional stretch goals here for the final hours of the campaign. Please, let us share them with you..."

Permit us to draw your attention to the first of the new stretch goals, number 7. This goal unlocks an important portion of Krosmoz history, just for you... the origins of the Smug Duck. This interactive comic will give you a glimpse into the secret life of this enigmatic figure... what other precious secrets is he hiding?

What secrets indeed? Tag #WakfuSmugDuck on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr with your theories

And if even this isn't enough Smug Duck for you, we are holding a little contest. If you want the Smug Duck to get a cameo in the new special episode, let us know by using the hashtag #WakfuSmugDuck on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, or, alternatively, just whisper it to yourself as you snuggle into bed at night and we will hear it through the mystic flow of Wakfu that connects us all.

Stretch goal number 8 will give us the budget to produce a mini-feature for the making-of the new special Wakfu episode. We will follow our production team through the entire process, from conception to completion, showing you how Ankama produces the fine animation that you've so generously supported!

And finally... because we believe that miracles can happen (after all, we've seen so many of them happen in this very campaign), we are including one final reward for you, stretch goal number 9 - a second special Wakfu episode! Could yet another dream become a reality? We'll find out in 24 hours...

Whatever happens between now and then, we can't thank you enough for all of your feedback, your generosity, and your wonderful support! The team is preparing a small token of their gratitude for you as well, which we'll share after the project is complete. We love you all!

Updated Delivery Dates

Production of the three post-Season 2 specials is not complete yet, and production for the new special episode cannot begin until the others are done, which means that we must push back the delivery date for all pledges including Blu-Rays.

At this point, we are aiming for October 2014 for delivery of all Blu-Ray pledges depending on our production schedule

The FAQs and page information will be updated accordingly.

Ideally, we should have been able to announce this change earlier, and we apologize in advance to anyone who has their plans disrupted by this delivery date adjustment.

At this time, we are looking into some alternatives for delivery of the new special episode should its production run long, but we will keep you informed as the post-project phase begins and production moves forward.

Kickstarter is dynamic in the fact that they really do not know how much will be raised, the reason for this specific delay is to give us more content, that they didn't expect to even be able to provide to us initially. With that being said, sure there are other Kickstarter projects that were delayed for other reasons, but an "Estimated" delivery is just that - estimated.

hate to say it, but great another kickstarter project with another delay, just wish it would have shipped on day i will actually pledge on here and get something by the ship date....

Still i cannot wait to get this!!!!!

    3. Xiang Qin on

October 2014!! Well well I Can Wait :D

Ah, I do enjoy Smug Duck...

As for the delivery dates: no problem. :) As long as we're kept informed, take as long as is needed to preserve the quality.

Personally I would have been fine with 2014 or 2015. I mean as long as a kickstarter project tells me what's going on I'm as patient as can be waiting for the final product to be completed to the best of the creator's ability. What would people rather have, a project that delivers only exactly what it originally intended at the originally expected delivery, or a project that grows and delivers more based on exceeded expectations with delayed delivery dates to give it time to complete the originally unexpected extras? It's good they clarified right away that it's Oct 2014, but even if it had been 2015 I wouldn't expect that to be a problem.

I must confess I am not happy to hear there will be a delay. I would like at least digital copies of Season 1 & 2 while you work on adding new material. I hope that October projection is the absolute worse case scenario. Apr 2014 was the original date a lot of us pledged for. Oh well, I will go cry by myself in the corner now hehe

Will the stretch goal 6 episode be available later via itunes, if the rest of the series is?

Also, is there any chance of a pure digital distribution of eps, instead of blu-ray? I have a number of friends who have said that they wished they could pledge, but can't justify it because they don't own blu-ray players.

    8. Erika Bryan on

Personally, I'd be happy to wait for the DVD if it meant getting everything properly included.

    9. Yuchen Y. on

I thought it was a bit odd to take so long to make a new episode considering how fast Ankama works. Good to clear it up now.

    10. Matthew C on

Ohh.. I was looking forward to getting a random package in 2015 for a BR that I would have forgotten about.... but yeh... 2014 sounds better :)

      Thanks for the message

^(^-^)^ Going above and beyond $400,000! Though not sure we can reach $500k but I could be wrong. Most likely we'll reach $450,000 ^_^

    12. Ankama Creator on

Sorry again for the typo everyone. We've just sent out messages to all pledge tiers that contain a Blu-Ray with an additional clarification to help spread the word.

    13. Mark Anthony King II on

OK, I got a little worried about it being 2015 instead of 2014 but hey, that's around my birthday so all things are good.

Also, looks like that $415,000 CAD goal will be reached within an hour or so.

Oh god I have to go to work and I don't know if 2015 is a typo. Make the pain stop.

Can't get enough of that duck

    17. Andrew Hartshorn on

I don't what's more exciting that we 400,000 and we re still rising or be able see Wakfu dubbed this has been ab awesome campaign to a part of :-)

    18. Jared MacPhee on

Fingers crossed for stretch goal 8, that would be awesome. (I wanna know how you get those colors!)

    19. Simon Taylor on

Nah, October 2014 isn't too far off. Gives me time to finally buy a blu-ray player, at least! :-p

    20. ordrune

Already a delay of a year and a half from estimated delivery date and the Kickstarter hasn't even finished. This doesn't bode well.

    21. John G on

I suspected it was a typo. Looks like I was right, thankfully.

Oh good, it was really 2014.

*2015*! Wow, I mean, I can wait, but 2015! It just punctures a huge hole in my excitement.
But, I will preserve. The wait will be worth it.

    24. Aaron B. on

October 2015 feels like a long, long ways away.... but that should give me enough time to get off my butt and purchase a Blu-ray player... ha!

    25. Bernd Jankowiak on

I have to ask. is that 2015 correct or just a typo? cause it seems like quiet a big leap.

    26. Mathúin [‘Ma-Hoon’]

If people did want an alternative, you could always make a special 'Special Episodes' Bluray for backers to ship later?

But having it all on one disc is awesome! :3

... Perhaps there could be a digital offering that we could watch while waiting for the physical discs?

    27. Eyferann on

I believe that October is a reasonable date and i'd rather have a delay and have the episode on blu-ray than something alternative.
