Update follow up: keys!

Following our previous update, thin on the keyboard, here's an update to that update (Inception!) with the photos of the keys at last.

These samples are en-route to the UK to undergo Phil's (Rick Dickinson Associates) scrutiny and feedback. They are missing the glossy finish on the lower step, and the texturing (including print) on the top. These are done once we give them the OK for the samples, and it's a straightforward surface job.

With this out of the way, we move to the T2 stage, which means the keyboard assembly and testing on the case.

Progress at last!

Here are the pictures, we should have a few more in time for the next update in two weeks with surface and print done.

They are looking rather nice already.

Come to think of it, the last time keys such as these were made, it's some 32 years ago with the end of the Sinclair QL! This is reason to retro-celebrate!

      Keep up the good work.
      Almost there.

It may be a good idea to update the store pages to not include "The Next will ship in February 2018 (only Kickstarter orders ship in January)."

It is awesome seeing how well you are conducting this. Not that I was a part of a lot of crowdfunding, but this one is by far the best in keeping people informed. Thanks for your hard work!

      Hi team!

Fiddling around with "Just The Board" is so much fun that I do not necessarily wait for the whole computer ...

However, I have a bet on the run that the Next will not be delivered in 2018!

      PLEASE, make me lose. ;-)

As always: keep your fingers crossed!

No, the QL wasn't the last micro to use these keys. Here is a Moldovan computer from 1991 with similar keys https://beta.collectorsbridge.com/collections/sinclair-computers-and-clones/article/signal-sintez-2 😁

I seriously can't wait to get my boxed Speccy Next with R-pi accelerator. I have a copy of Dungeonette sitting on my shelf patiently waiting for my Speccy Next. I do hope I'm able to play it before Christmas...before Thanksgiving would be even better. The Speccy Next is the most exciting thing to happen to retro gaming in a good decade. Waiting to get mine has been the hardest part.

It was worth backing for the updates alone. Really enjoying reading about technical aspects.
