We invite you to join us in launching...
Headhunter: Hilarious Hires from History!
This particular game has special meaning because it is the very first game that our family company, Legends of Ravenhall, is releasing. Though we have been making and playing games for years, our family decided to formalize our endeavors in 2018 to focus on family engagement activities. For you see, playing games and spending time together results in healthy relationships, which we believe leads to a healthy family. And, Headhunter is a great way to get started!
If you have already visited our site in the past, then you know that this is not our first attempt to fund Headhunter. Here's the background:
Shortly after we launched our first kickstarter campaign, we were approached by a private investor to fund the entire game! Sounds great, right? Well, yes, it is great, yet this brought a different set of risks and challenges. Should we let the backer fund the entire campaign with one pledge? According to the rules, we can't support our own campaign, so we figured that if we allowed the investor to back a large amount, then it would look suspicious, even though it wasn't against the rules. What should we do? Should we even finish the campaign? We struggled with this decision and decided to not market the campaign further, yet we did keep Headhunter on the site while we finalized the details with the investor. Though we ultimately canceled the campaign since it wasn't needed, we still want to thank our supporters and fulfill the rewards. Thus, the reason for this new campaign. This extra funding will enable production of the "Makers of History" game, as well as all custom cards that backers may want as rewards, promised during the first campaign. Second, this extra funding will allow increased game components for Headhunter (more cards), as well as enhanced artwork.
Thank you for your support, and we hope that you enjoy Headhunter! Check it out here!
Headhunter: Hilarious Hires from History is a comical, historical, business-themed card game. Players take turns being the employer, attempting to hire historical figures for job positions, while the remaining players are "headhunters" pitching their most qualified candidates for the job. One to four candidates may be hired for jobs such as garbage collector, bull rider, or tutor. The candidate deemed most qualified for the job will receive the highest salary, and the player who earns the most money by the end of the game wins!
So, can you get your candidates hired?

WHAT TO EXPECT
(300) Game Cards, divided into 3 decks:
(Old 1st Edition Card Backs above, New 2nd Edition Card Backs below)
(160) Character Cards (candidates represented on business cards)
(Old 1st Edition Cards above, New 2nd Edition Cards below)
(75) Position Cards (job postings the employer reveals and seeks to fill)
(Old 1st Edition Cards above, New 2nd Edition Cards below)
(65) Salary Cards (amount of compensation for the position)
(Old 1st Edition Cards above, New 2nd Edition Cards below)
(1) Game Box, Custom Game Die, and Rule Sheet
Divide cards into 3 respective piles: candidate cards, salary cards, and position cards. Shuffle and place face down. Each player draws 3 candidate cards and does not show to anyone. Select one player to act as the employer for the first round by rolling die for lowest number. Initial employer draws a position card, rolls dice, and draws same number of salary cards as number rolled.
Be the first Headhunter to place $1,000,000 in salaries or the highest amount in salaries by the end of the game, whichever comes first.
Starting with the first player and moving clockwise thereafter, each player acts as the employer to "post the job" by revealing the position card and all salary cards. Each non-employer is called a headhunter and proceeds to choose from his hand a candidate for the position. Since the candidates are from a diverse group of historically significant people, the headhunter may choose a candidate that is highly qualified or comically unqualified for the position, and give it face down to the employer.
Once all headhunters have offered a candidate card, the employer mixes the cards and places them face up next to the position card. Comments may then be shared during the hiring process. Employers must hire one candidate per salary card and award each headhunter whose candidate was hired. Employer has absolute discretion in hiring and rewarding salaries. Players then place their earned salary card face up in front of their play area.
The player who earns the most money after two complete rounds, or if a player reaches $1,000,000 in salaries first, is the winner.
Do you have what it takes to be a CEO? Can you have the most clients? Will you earn the most $$$ to be the best headhunter?
HEADHUNTER: MAKERS OF HISTORY EDITION
Headhunter: Makers of History Edition will be made available as a print on demand game online (not merely a simple print and play). This edition will be created in the honor of all supporters of the game and available to anyone who wishes to purchase it. Kickstarter Backers will receive the game at a discount price. Also, this edition will include new Character Cards that have been selected from the custom cards designed by backers, Job Position Cards that have been designed by backers, and a few additional Salary Cards. The best cards created by backers will be chosen by the Legends of Ravenhall team. This Special Edition of the game will be available later this year but before Headhunter is manufactured and shipped to supporters. This will allow supporters an opportunity to play the game while waiting for Hilarious Hires from History. In addition, the Makers of History version will offer alternate rules with additional ways to play.
CUSTOM CHARACTER CARDS
Backers can design Custom Cards, and most Reward Levels will be able to receive Custom Cards with Personal Copies of Headhunter: Hilarious Hires from History.
Custom Cards Designed by Backers May be Featured in the Headhunter: Makers of History Edition. The Legends of Ravenhall team will choose the very best cards to represent the backers in the Special Edition designed to honor those who made it possible.
How Do Custom Cards Work???
Once the Campaign ends, backers will be given a survey to complete which will also include their custom card information. This will offer the same informational layout as the other Headhunter Character Cards (Name, Date, Quote, 1-5 Attributes/Features). Example:
NAME: backer's name and/or names of family or friends, or nicknames
DATE: backer's actual date of birth and death/present, or fictional dates
QUOTE: backer's chosen quote which may be serious or silly, nothing too long.
ATTRIBUTES: backer's actual attributes or fictional traits, maximum of 5 attributes.
NEW: Now, a photo can be added to the card!
*NOTE: No vulgar language will be allowed for the special edition since this game is family friendly.
Headhunter: Hilarious Hires from History is estimated to be completed and shipped by the end of 2019, as long as the manufacturing process runs smoothly. Our goal is for the game to be in your hands as soon as possible.
Custom Cards, Headhunter: Makers of History, and other Rewards will be completed before Headhunter: Hilarious Hires from History is shipped because of a Print on Demand Service which will be used taking less time than the standard manufacturing process. Thus, all appropriate personalized rewards will ship as soon as they are created, and the Special Edition game will be made available for early purchase to enjoy while waiting for your primary reward to arrive. "Other Rewards" will be shipped to backers for FREE. If backers wish to purchase the Special Edition Print on Demand game while waiting for their copy of Headhunter, the shipping costs will be determined by the POD service used at that time.
The "hall" has been the community gathering place for every culture throughout history. It is host to food, music, news, history, learning, government, and entertainment. What other place would be more appropriate to host games and adventure?
And "raven" stems from our family crest, for family is of utmost importance to us. For you see, a family that plays together stays together.
At Legends of Ravenhall, we aim to be an innovative developer of games and other family engagement initiatives. So please support our first endeavor!

HEADHUNTER: HILARIOUS HIRES FROM HISTORY
Risks and challenges
Below we have posted our original risks and challenges. As you may know, this isn't our first Headhunter funding campaign. (see the original below) Shortly after we launched our first campaign, we were approached by a private investor willing to fund the entire game! Sounds great, right? Well, it was, yet this brought forth a different set of risks and challenges. Should we let the backer fund the entire campaign with one pledge? According to the rules, we can't support our own campaign, so we figured that if we allowed the investor to back a significantly large amount, then it would look suspicious, though it wasn't against the rules. We struggled with this decision and ultimately decided to not continue marketing the campaign, though we did keep Headhunter on the site until we finalized the details with the investor. We eventually canceled the campaign since it wasn't needed, yet still wanted to fulfill the rewards to our backers. So, that's why we decided to make this new campaign. With extra funding, we will produce the "Makers of History" game, as well as all custom cards that backers may want as rewards, promised during the first campaign. Second, this extra funding will allow for more game components in Headhunter (more cards), as well as to enhance the artwork.
Thank you for your support, and we hope that you enjoy Headhunter!
There are many risks and challenges that we are facing in tackling this project, as follows:
Time: For anyone who knows us, we are very busy people. Besides working full time jobs, having a large family, enjoying lots of friends, and volunteering at church and in the community, we have also recently had a wedding, two moves, a new baby, and renovated a new house. Oh, did we mention that we lead the local scout-like troops too? Hmm.. anything else? Oh, the game of course! Though it has been challenging, we are dedicated to making it happen!
Budget: The challenge is that our budget is about $0! Of course we have spent every penny we could to this point, what with making game prototypes, securing art and logos, shipping prototypes, and more. With that being said, there is not much extra funds, so this is why we are reaching out for your help! Thank You!
Audience: Another challenge is trying to gauge the size of our audience. This campaign will help us to identify our audience and to learn how many followers we currently have.
Project: The project itself, in its entirety, is ambitious for us because we are new to the board game creation scene, formally, so we have to learn everything as we go. How do you create art? How do you make a prototype? How do reviews work? How does Kickstarter function? How do you make a project page? How do you find board game related information? Where do you go to find people to ask? How do you make and manage the website and social media? This and more we had to discover, but we are learning!
One project that really helped us thus far was making our Custom Ravenhall Dice. We learned about the manufacturing process, the time frame for creation, and how pricing works. Though this is still a work in progress, it has given us experience.
We so much appreciate the help from various forums and sites, specifically Board Game Designer's Forum (BGDF) and Board Game Geek (BGG). Thank you for your assistance!
In addition, we want to say a big THANK YOU to all of our supporters, both with this campaign and with our games in general! We have many prototypes and ideas in the works, but we chose Headhunter as our first game to officially release. We very much appreciate all the helpful tips, instruction, and advice that we have received to date, and we hope that we continue to have your support going forward not only with HEADHUNTER: HILARIOUS HIRES FROM HISTORY, but with future projects as well.
