It's about damn time we had some ass kickin' Rock N' Roll around here...well, there you go. That pretty much sums up the mission statement of Jawbone Junction. We wanted to create a killer after hours party at the Philly Fringe Festival, and no better way for us than with little Southern Rock, a couple drinks and some laughs.
The idea behind Jawbone Junction was to make a rock/theater hybrid, influenced by the music of bands like The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and mixed with the comedy of rock lampoon acts like Spinal Tap and The Ruttles. We've assembled a fantastic group of Philadelphia theatre artists and musicians (Sarah Gliko, Damon Bonetti, Tabitha Allen, Charlie DelMarcelle, John Greenbaum, and Jake Blouch) who've gone through the process of creating the characters that make up the fictional Jawbone Junction; a band of country-fried Arkansawyer rockers, legends in their native Arkansas Delta, but glaringly out of place in the big city of Philadelphia. With the Twisted Tail as our backdrop, the show we plan to create doesn't rely heavily on a traditional narrative, but rather let's the music (we've composed a set list of originals, but we'll also throw in some old favorites) and the banter in between songs paint a picture for the audience of who Jawbone Junction is. Nothing goes right for this band, and the comedy will come in watching them desperately try to hold it together.
Your contribution will go a long way in helping us attain our goal. We need to raise money for equipment maintenance, rehearsal space rent, costuming. Oh, and most importantly t-shirts, trucker hats, and thongs to print the JJ logo on. Hey, and if we have some funds left over, we might even be able to pay people! Any contribution will help us throw six rockin' parties at The Twisted Tail September 9, 16, and 23rd at 10pm and 12 am midnight.
