About this project
Our concept is simple: Saving Mikey is a chooseable-path adventure game built on plain text messages from a young boy, who went missing in an infected area after "Lyssa", a very dangerous rabies-like virus started to spread silently. You have to help him survive and reach the safe zone by telling him what to do when he faces different situations and threats during his journey. We mixed the classic „road trip in an apocalyptic world” genre with our all-time favourites: the interactive Fighting Fantasy books from the 80's.
I am reaching out to you again because of these weird and scary events happening right now in Lexington.
Yesterday I got new patients with the same symptoms: general signs of the average flu(!), but with muscle weakness, increasing sense of smell and disconcerted behaviour. It is now an epidemic.
You can find the detailed description in my previous e-mails.
Those infected earlier are still having this strange flu after 1 week with the same intensity – but they have started to show new symptoms too!
Those first patients have new problems now such as excess salvation, aggresion, insomnia, tingling and constant high fever.
Yesterday we had a physical incident in the local mall: a small group of diseased people attacked the customers in line at the apothecary.
I have just visited two of them. Their families had to tie them to their bed, because they totally lost self-control and became extremely dangerous.
Their status is critical – I have had to call the hospital for an emergency car.
I am afraid they have already infected their families and even the hospital crew.
Right now the waiting room is full of people who show the same early symptoms of this weird flu. It is spreading extremely aggressive.
Can it be some kind of a hybrid rabies?
It could be an explanation for the aggressiveness... But it usually takes weeks, even months for an infected victim to develop the symptoms of rabies!
Has anyone met this flu (??) in other cities? Or is it just Lexington? If this turns out to be a new and very aggressive hybrid virus, it is going to spread everywhere!
I have called the CDC... they will send a team tomorrow. Stay in touch everybody!

The Lyssa supervirus broke out only 16 days ago. It is not global yet, but a state-sized territory is lost in the US in the Midwest/Mid-Atlantic region. The military have finally established quarantine. Millions are infected. Most of the not-infected are going to get evacuated, but many just got left behind without any help. Many try to get into the infected zone and find their loved ones – and there are few who do not want to leave at all...
The communication lines collapsed and those trapped in the zone are trying to reach someone outside and ask for help. Mikey is one of them. He is lost, he has no weapons, no surviving skills but a communication device. And after a few hours of desperate attempts he has just reached your phone...
The task is dangerous: there is a forest between him and the evacuation point. An ordinary forest with roads, parks, lakes, rivers, camps, small villages, parking lots with restaurants and look-out towers. It was a perfect trip for a weekend just two months ago, but it is a hellish nightmare these days, especially for an 8 years old. The infected are everywhere, locals try to defend their properties, and maniacs rage all over the territory worshipping the virus Lyssa and the chaos she created.
Saving Mikey will be playable on both Android and iOS devices
(including Apple Watch).
· The classic Fighting Fantasy genre goes to mobile devices: You get Mikey's messages in text form, and you have two answers to choose. Your answers will lead Mikey on his journey.
· Real time events (possible option for the gameplay): Mikey needs the same time to do his tasks as a real-life person would need: a mile long trip for him may easily take an hour. But when he stops and asks you, time freezes. We let you answer him when you can or want, and the story will continue after you've told him what to do. We think the gameplay experience will be the best, if you play Saving Mikey this mode.
If the journey ends fatally – or you want to change the way you play –, you may change to „fast mode” and rush through the previously explored parts (or the whole story) as if you were reading a book: no idle time between events, but constant action.
· Map: The map of the forest is available from the beginning. It helps you plan Mikey's next move and it shows you where Mikey is. But it does not show you where dangerous hordes of the infected rampage, or which houses are occupied with friendly (or foe) armed civilians.
We are a
small team from Hungary, knowing each other from the professional
field for a decade now. With many years of experience we can do all
the job ourselves: except for the english translation. We want you to
have the best experience possible, and we need a professional
translator who can interpret our story to you. That's the point when
we ask for your help. All the money you give us will fund the
translation of the story. We do the rest and give the fans of the
interactive fiction genre one hell of a trip!
Risks and challenges
We wanted to lower the risks as much as possible, so we have already done our part: the beta version of the game for both iOS and Android devices is finished. We have completed the story in the program Twine. When we get the English version of the text, the game will be ready to publish in a couple of days. We want to present you the Saving Mikey app in the middle of June, 2017.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
