We're trying to find a way to deliver a DRM-free version without short-changing folks who choose it. Obviously, Steamworks is a great infrastructure for sharing files quickly and easily within a game, but we're looking into other options, particularly because Steam doesn't yet support mobile platforms, which we hope to reach.
We're particularly interested in what the Humble Bundle Store is developing currently. In all likelihood, we'll be able to release there in 2 years with full capability, but we'll have to see how quickly their service can progress. We're also big fans of GOG.com, having released our previous game, Ring Runner, there first.
That being said, can't promise anything we're not 100% certain we can deliver. Right now it's looking very likely, and Ring Runner is currently available DRM-free or on GOG, Humble Bundle, as well as other great indie sites like Fireflower Games, ShinyLoot, and IndieGameStand.
