In the spring of 2012 Oceangybe will release Tide Lines – our story of a 3 ½ year circumnavigation of the globe by sailboat. Traveling the world’s most remote beaches in search of perfect waves we were continually confronted with the cast-off’s of consumer culture – disposable plastic.
In the three and a half years at sea, we traveled 40,000 nautical miles cross all of the major oceans and visited some 40 countries, and documented the pollution on beaches we visited. Throughout the voyage, we shared our experiences personally with over 15,000 people in schools, universities and the general public through slideshows and presentations. By making this film, we will be able to share our story with thousands more with the aim to inspire them to step out of their comfort zone, follow their dreams, and make a change in the world while doing it.
The film unites professionally shot HD footage and all-hours on-board action and stunning still photography to make a compelling narrative of our adventures. .
Tide Lines is the culmination of years of preparation, research, travel and exploration. With this Kickstarter campaign we are raising money to cover the post-production costs of Tide Lines. The money raised will let us turn the rough-cut film into a broadcast-ready documentary. Local TV stations and a number of film festivals have already expressed interest in the film. The money will used for additional professional editing and narration. It will also be used to create animation, special effects & titles, as well as for the process of combining all of these elements: rendering, composition, sound design and editing. There are also hardware and software that we need in order to create everything at high resolution so that the finished film will be able to screen theatrically.
In addition, there are a number of other post-production costs such as promotion, film festival expenses, and insurance that we will need to cover.
If you're not familiar with Kickstarter or how it will work, here's a brief overview (or you can read the official one, here). For the next 30 days, you'll be able to make pledges to help support this project, ranging from $1 to whatever you can afford. For your pledge, you can select one of the reward packages—listed to the right—of equal or lesser value to your pledge. You can always pledge more than the minimum to get a reward if you want (and for some packages, you'll need to do so if it must be shipped internationally). Your credit card or other account will not actually be charged at the time you make your pledge, and you can change your mind right up to the final deadline.
If the final deadline comes and we've reached our goal, then everyone gets charged the amount they pledged at once and we get to work taking Tide Lines to the next level.
