Women's Pants. With Usable Pockets
Pants for women. With large, functional pockets. And belt loops. And a lining to the knee to help prevent thigh chafe. Sized to fit larger women as well as smaller women. And with sizes based on your real measurements.
This shouldn't be an innovation. But apparently it is.
Pockets. Pockets. Pockets. Pockets.
Women have been talking about wanting pockets for years. But because we, as a society, keep saying that a woman's aesthetic is more important than her ability to function comfortably, fashion keeps giving women fake pockets, or tiny pockets that slant into your crotch. We promise pockets big enough for the current generation of smartphones. That go down your leg. So you can carry your phone in your pants, rather than your bra. And it won't fall into the toilet when you sit down to go.
All of our pockets are at least 9 inches deep and 6 inches wide--they do get a bit bigger in the larger sizes, but that's the minimum.
Sometimes, you have a waist and hips that don't match up to the standard that the fashion gods decree you need to be to fit into their average size. The reality is that every label has to pick their size, and women's body shapes vary more than men's. So maybe you don't quite fit their standard. It would be nice if they had enough belt loops of a large enough size that you could wear a belt and actually keep your pants up. So that's what we're giving you. At least 5 belt loops, that are large enough to fit a decent belt. So if you're going for a close enough fit, or a looser fit, you won't be having any wardrobe malfunctions at inopportune moments.
Shaped For You
We have two designs, a Classic Quokka cut for women who are apple shaped, or straight up and down, and a Curvy Quokka cut for pear or hourglass figures. While you can wear any cut you fit into, we've designed the Curvy Quokka for women with curves-it features two elasticated sections on the waistband, and a stretch panel running down from the waist all the way to the ankle. That way, if you need a bit of stretch to get your pants over your thighs, or have a body that gets uncomfortably bloated for reasons, you can get pants that suit your body, rather than having to work on your body to suit your pants. While we're likely to end up charging a bit more for the Curvy Quokka pants once launched, for now, you can get either design at the same price. It's a bit of a thank you for being one of our first backers!
Plus Sized (Normal Sized) Included
Quokka Pocket Clothing is designed to fit women of all sizes--or at least, as many sizes as we can realistically manufacture for. At present, we're sizing up to natural waist size 47 (in inches), and we're making sure it fits someone who actually has a 47 inch waist before sending it out to you. That way, there's a much better chance of it fitting you, a real person, rather than just taking pants sized for someone with a waist sized 27 inches and pretending that if we scale them up to your size they'll magically still fit. Because we all know they won't.
As a small business, we've calculated that our largest pants will be using 3 times the fabric of our smallest, and unfortunately, fabric costs are significant--worsted wool blends aren't cheap--and it's likely we're going to have to price our larger clothing higher than our smaller clothing. Eventually. For now, it's all the one flat rate. You're backing us early, and that's worth a lot to us.
If you're unsure of how to get your measurements, we've made some videos to help. Here's one for getting measurements on a smaller body, here's one for getting measurements on a larger body, and here's one for measuring yourself if you have no-one else around to help you right now.
Thigh Chafe Protection
If you're one of the many women out there who has thighs that touch and rub together when you walk, you know what we're talking about. Sometimes, your thighs eat pants. Right in the crotch. We're not miracle workers, but we can and have tried to design around this. Both our Classic Quokka and Curvy Quokka pants have a breathable cotton half lining to the knee to provide comfort, reinforcement, and hopefully slip neatly past the wool and prevent wear and tear. Or at least delay it.
Where's the Money Going?
At this point, your money is going directly to fund our first order. We've sampled with the factory so the design is working, and we're in the process of sampling for sizes--making sure the pants will fit real people. Especially the upper end of the range. If we raise more money, we'll be able to cover some of our start-up costs, and possibly bring you some more colour options, but at this point, it's a question of raising the funds to cover the first order, and pay for taxes, tags and packaging to get it out to you. Your size orders will also let us know what sizes we should be stocking for our online store.
- Colour: Black
- Pants Fabric: 45% Wool / 55% Polyester; Stretch: Spandex 3% / Cotton 97%

In great news, we've managed to secure some seed funding to bring you shipping at half price. This is especially good news for everyone overseas in North America and Europe. This is a Kickstarter special only--we expect shipping to revert to normal rates once we're outside of this campaign.
*Shipping is listed as an estimate only, and all costs are listed in Australian Dollars. We are actively working to decrease shipping costs and will update these if that proves possible. International shipping is the most likely to go down with volume.
Our top tier rewards offer a bespoke garment along with your pair of Quokka Pocket pants. We thought it might be nice if you could see what the bespoke designs look like, so here they are.
At the moment, we're focusing on bringing you the best pants we can, but we do have some goals that can be brought forward with a large enough order.
- At 300 international pants orders, we'll be unlocking cheaper international shipping.
- At $55,000 AUD we'll be bringing forward and accelerating one of our next designs in the Quokka Corporate wardrobe: a jacket, a skirt or a blouse. We'll let you pick which one we work on next.
- At $100,000 AUD, we'll be able to bring forward a second order, and can bring you another colour of Quokka pants in both styles. We'll get a few options together and let you vote for what you want--and we'll put that into production.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risks are manufacturing delays. We're doing something new and making design choices that most factories aren't prepared for and flies in the face of conventional fashion design. Depending on the final run size, there may be bigger orders that get prioritised over ours. There is also a small risk of delays with shipping if our container is held up in port, but as we've already done most of the design sampling already, that's the only real risk.
For American customers there's some issues with potential changes to your postal service which would directly increase shipping costs into America, but that could easily depend on the way you vote, so best of luck there.
Shipping costs are subject to change, but we've been conservative on the weights and measurements, so if anything they should hopefully go down rather than up. If we're able to sell over 300 pants internationally, we'll be able to decrease international shipping costs with a business contract to get flat rate shipping, so there's that too.
Taking orders and distribution will take time. To mitigate this we will be using CrowdOx to get your orders and details sorted post campaign. This means that you get control of your information, and we don't have to send a lot of emails back and forth to gather it, and we eliminate any transcription errors. There is no cost to you, and CrowdOx does not keep any of your data once the project wraps up. Please expect a link to that site when the Kickstarter wraps up.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
