Welcome to our Kickstarter for Legendary Adventures: Volume 2, which includes Harrowing Heights, Quarantined, Vind'l Svar, and Bloody Battlefronts. Don't worry if you missed out on Legendary Adventures: Volume 1 (which encompassed Eastern Highlands, Buried Alive, Lost Ruins, and Arctic Tundra), as not only is every adventure fully standalone, but you also have the option of picking up all of the Volume 1 adventures through this Kickstarter at a significant discount, so it's easy to get caught up.
So what are Legendary Adventures?
Legendary Adventures are an accessible, inexpensive, and versatile resource for gamemasters on a budget and with limited preparation time, or those looking for inspiration and new ideas. They are designed for use with the OGL 5e ruleset and they're available for about the same price as a sandwich and a cup of coffee and jam-packed with content.
Each Legendary Adventure offers gamemasters:
- An interesting and original adventure with high production values, each of which has been thoroughly edited, playtested, and proofread.
- One (or more) hub locations that can be used as a 'base of operations' for your players during the adventure provided, or for use in your own campaigns - complete with guidelines for creating your own thematically-appropriate content and lots of optional/modular content suggestions of our own.
- Extensive appendices which grow and expand the game; adding new NPCs, templates, monsters, magical items, backgrounds, and a whole lot more besides.
In short, we're absolutely positive that, for the price of admission, you'll find something to justify your purchase - even if you never actually run or participate in a single adventure. Just take Legendary Adventures: Harrowing Heights for example. This product, expected at around 80 pages, presents 24 brand new magical items, stat blocks for 17 non-player characters, and more than 20 new types of kobolds and drakes. Available for as little as £4 through this Kickstarter, that's an absolute truckload of new materials by any measure.
Thanks for taking the time to check out our Kickstarter, we're delighted to be able to reacquaint existing fans with a slew of new Legendary Adventures, and introduce a new generation of gamers and hobbyists to our flagship product line.
Legendary Adventures: Volume 2 is comprised of 4 exciting new adventures. This time around we have Harrowing Heights, Quarantined, Vind'l Svar, and Bloody Battlefronts. Each product is approximately 80-pages in length and features premium, full-colour artwork and cartography throughout. They can be purchased individually as digital products, and we're also releasing a 300+ page, full-colour hardback tome which collects all four adventures together if you'd prefer to have them in physical print. And you can get both incarnations together at a substantial discount through this Kickstarter.
Alternatively, and just to make things super accessible, easy, and straightforward, if you purchase a Legendary Adventure in a digital format, you'll get access to 'printer-friendly' and 'super printer-friendly' formats on top of the 'standard' version - so you can always print everything yourself or support your local printers if that's your preference. We're also planning on making 'character art cards', 'stat block summary cards', and more available for your convenience as well to maximise the value that we're able to offer.
Let's delve into what each Volume 2 Legendary Adventure offers in a little bit more detail:
Developed and fulfilled through a Kickstarter we launched at the end of last year that ran through into January, Legendary Adventures: Volume 1 is comprised of Eastern Highlands, Buried Alive, Lost Ruins, and Arctic Tundra. Averaging around 75 pages each, these adventures pack in an awful lot of great adventuring ideas and suggestions, but they're also much earlier, less considered products. We're still super proud of what we were able to achieve with them, but we've been able to grow and improve massively since then and wouldn't dream of suggesting otherwise. That said, for as little as £4 each, we're still confident that you'll find them worth a read.
Each individual Volume 1 adventure can be bought digitally (once again including 'standard', 'printer-friendly', and 'super printer-friendly' versions + 'artwork cards'), or else as a 300 page, full-colour hardback tome which collects all four adventures together if you'd prefer to have them in physical print. And, once again, you can get both versions together at a substantial discount.
We haven't covered Legendary Adventures: Volume 1 in much detail here as the focus of this Kickstarter is to fund the development and release of Volume 2, however if you'd like to learn more about Volume 1, you can take a look at our previous Kickstarter for it here.
Eastern Highlands, Buried Alive, Lost Ruins, and Arctic Tundra, our Legendary Adventures: Volume 1 products, are 100% complete and ready to ship in digital and physical formats. Two weeks after this Kickstarter completes, Kickstarter collects any pledges that are still outstanding and then cancels those that can't be processed. We're aiming to deliver all 4 Legendary Adventures from Volume 1 to backers digitally within 24-hours of then, and we'll order all of the physical copies of Volume 1 for shipping at the same time. We're using DriveThruRPG for product fulfilment as it provides a trusted and cost-effective platform to do so (see the infographic on this below).
It's our intention to also release Harrowing Heights on the same day as the Volume 1 products, and then each of the three remaining Legendary Adventures, Quarantined, Vind'l Svar, and Bloody Battlefronts, at a rate of one per month. We've approached designing these products much more intelligently this time around, so the physical copies of Volume 2 should ship within a matter of weeks of Bloody Battlefronts' digital release; basically about 4 months after the Kickstarter ends.
We'll ship the physical print editions separately, so you don't have to wait until the release of Volume 2 in order to receive Volume 1.
Those ordering digital products will also receive them in 'standard', 'printer-friendly', and 'super printer-friendly' formats. We're also providing easy, convenient artwork cards and may do the same with stat blocks and more besides. You can see examples of all of these below.
Established last year, DeepDark Designs is a game design studio and publishing house that produces adventures and rules supplements for your favourite tabletop roleplaying games.
Our core team is formed of Daniel McDonald, Sam McDonald, Pete Pinner, and Jason Robinson. The four of us have been gamers in one form or another for a very long time, and our primarily loves are roleplaying and roleplaying games. In fact, it's pretty rare to see any of us go more than a week or two without playing, gamemastering, or at the absolute minimum; picking up a roleplaying book and pouring over it for hours.
You can learn a little bit more about each of us here or else just ask.

Risks and challenges
Product fulfilment for our last Kickstarter proved to be much more challenging than expected, and was consequently delayed. However, as a result of this we were able to more than double the length of each product at no extra charge to our backers. I'd like to briefly go over why things were delayed, what we learned from the experience, and what we're doing differently this time around to prevent it from happening again.
So why the delay? The main reason our last Kickstarter took longer to fulfil than anticipated really boils down to the fact that we underestimated the amount of work involved in the project. Sickness, creative fatigue, and over-delivering on what we'd initially promised were also factors.
While it's not uncommon for companies like ours to struggle with product fulfilment at some point early on, it's useful to see how they handle such setbacks. In our case, we've really tried to make things right with our existing supporters, and everyone who bought all of our volume 1 adventures is getting each volume 2 adventure for free as an extra 'thank you' for standing by us.
More importantly, why won't we let it happen again?
Well, for a start, we’ve approached things much more intelligently this time around. We’ve outlined the scope of the project much better, set much more realistic targets for completing each product and getting them into the hands of backers, and we’ve done a lot more preliminary work going into the Kickstarter. Of course, there’s more art, cartography, and printing issues to consider this time around so delays aren’t impossible, but we've done everything we can to minimise the risks of anything like that occurring.
Really, the one thing that I’d say above all else is that we HATED letting people down. In our experience, it’s actually far, far more stressful and upsetting to be the one making someone wait for a product than it is to be the one waiting - and, we’ve experienced both. We absolutely DO NOT WANT to be in that position again and we’ll fight tooth and nail to avoid it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
