Thank you so much for your support. With your help we've surpassed our goal. You are all amazing.
The Kickstarter campaign is now over. You can explore our page and watch our video. If you're interested in learning more about Bam Boomerang and want to support and download the app, head over to openreading.org. We're waiting for you over there!
We are so thankful for all the support and enthusiasm everyone has shown Bam Boomerang.
Are you and your child excited about our learn-to-read games? Want to see more games created? So do we! You can help us build a new game:
NEW! STRETCH GOAL ADDED: $45,000
If we raise $45,000 we’ll build a new game! Help us exceed our goal and reach $45,000, and we'll build another game using fun reading techniques and engaging gameplay.
Let's do this!
Thank you so much for your support.
It is our desire to keep Bam Boomerang free for all teachers and families. We also want to continue to build the world's strongest team of designers, developers and educators so we can make learning to read fun and effective for every child, everywhere. To fund this we plan to offer a subscription to the teacher tools and analytics.
Quality Feedback System
Over time, our backend system learns how good each volunteer is at giving each type of feedback. The system uses that understanding to determine if one or more volunteers need to listen to each recording, depending on which volunteers are online, ensuring that the feedback presented to each student is accurate.
We take privacy very seriously in our system. Volunteers do not know the names or identity of the students they listen to. Volunteers only hear the audio of a student reading and the volunteers are presented with push- button options to capture feedback. Volunteers cannot speak to a student or type anything that is presented to student.
Our first version of Bam Boomerang is available today: http://bit.ly/DownloadBamBoomerang
We have already started working on the Teacher Tools and additional content and with your backing, we anticipate completing those tools by the end of the year! We will keep you posted with updates (be sure to join our mailing list here)
Thanks for reading all the way down here, we hope you’ve enjoyed learning about Bam Boomerang and that you are excited to become part of our learn-to-read community and join us on our journey!
Risks and challenges
We have students learning to read and we have the volunteers who listen to the students. As one side of our community grows faster than the other we could run into challenges. Our main worry is if we get students much faster than we get volunteers. To mitigate this, we have been building up a mailing list of volunteers we can call on. In addition we are optimizing the listening interface making volunteers more productive.
Software development can present unexpected challenges. An example was iOS8 updates introducing bugs into the app and having a two-week backlog before approval in the AppStore.
