DISTORTED TRANSFECTION INCEPTION
It was originally conceived as a play based in movement and rich character relationships. I am an avid fan of film but developed my intense craving for acting through the theater. As I’ve moved further along in my professional career, I’ve thought much more about opening my own doors into the industry as opposed to waiting for someone else to open those doors for me.I have been writing in different formats since I was 14 years old (the first was poetry) and have been spilling my creative juices ever since.
I am a bit of a supernatural enthusiast as well, and when the time came to spin this dreaming into reality, one of the first brainstorming tracks that found its way to paper was vampires + sexuality + family + language + humanity. Vampirism has inundated pop culture for a while now, and being a fan of the genre, I wanted to see it do something more original.
I hadn’t seen gay vampires actually lead the story in any of its incarnations in pop culture.I wanted to see minority characters tell human stories without the outsider issue being the core focus.I wondered why they couldn’t just be dealing with issues relevant to all people in relationships, not just sexual minorities or any type of otherness, vampires in this case.
DT TRANSLATED TO FILM
So I wrote, directed and acted in DT the stage play and afterwards wanted to delve further into the world I’d created for the small stage.I expanded the canvas of its world, introduced new characters and took to writing a much more developed story between 14 characters, and one that would be interesting enough to hold the attention of a larger audience.
Yes, many of the core characters are homosexual, but every one of the characters in the story are reaching for something outside of themselves, and whether that is eternal love, friendship, revenge, acceptance, family or power, destruction is left along the way. These are supernatural characters living very human lives and trying to navigate those respective lives through incredibly human emotions (with some flare and sass along the way).
As we started planning and filming, the possibilities for the life of this film began growing exponentially, and we wanted to give it the life we all feel it deserves.

On behalf of this crazily talented cast and crew, I thank you for all of your financial support and for the support you give us through word of mouth and good intentions! Thank you!
Risks and challenges
Taking on a full-length feature would present challenges for any group of artists, but we aren't working on a Hollywood film budget. All parties involved are making personal sacrifices of time and energy which we are more than happy to make! The more specific challenges we face are borrowing the high-quality equipment we need to make a fantastic looking film and running into location/set reservation issues (i.e. weather, price for renting spaces fitting into our budget).
To help circumvent the arising challenges we have a number of factors in play. We are exploiting and exhausting all of our connections to keep location rental costs and other production fees down to a minimum. We also have experienced production people on our side. We have an extraordinary editor and Director of Photography, a professional musician composing our original score for the film, and an Emmy-nominated and two-time Telly Award winning producer (Graham Sheldon) serving as a primary advisor. Because it's a project that everyone on board is not only terribly excited about but also believes in and is willing to make enormous sacrifices for, the chances of seeing this film go successfully out into the world are completely solid! Distorted Transfection has already started its journey and any donations made aid us in completing it and making it successful.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
