About

INTRODUCING THE GRAND POOBOX—THE KITTY LITTER BOX WITH PURRR-PUSS

Gone are the days of the cheap, ugly, plastic kitty litter box! The Grand PooBox is here to keep your messy cat litter on the inside of the box, not out. Add a dash of modern design and you no longer need to hide your litter box behind closed doors or worse, in the bathroom.

A NUGGET OF AN IDEA

The Grand PooBox started as a simple concept. As a cat owner and lover, and an interior designer by trade, I grappled with the daily litter box dilemma: How do I contain the litter mess strewn all over my beautiful, dark, hardwood floors? Darn cat! I manually filled my kitty litter box with 50% less litter, and shoveled the entire amount to the rear leaving the front half litter-free. That simple maneuver reduced the amount of litter scattered on my floors. Light bulb overhead! What about an internal grated ramp from the rear litter receptacle to the upper lip of the box. BAM! The Grand PooBox was born.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

2 years and 2 prototypes later, it's ALL about the RAMP.

CHANGING OUR PERCEPTION:

By eliminating 50% of the floor space for cat litter, and adding in the internal grated ramp, the Grand PooBox is all about reducing the amount of scattered litter on your floors. It's really that simple.

In addition to functionality, the Grand PooBox is about reducing our need for gallons of litter on a weekly basis. That's less litter to consume and fewer trips to the pet store...Saving us all a few extra dollars.

WE SUPPORT CAT RESCUE OPERATIONS & SHELTERS:

Most importantly, I'd like to share with you that all purchases of the Grand PooBox will include a donation to help support local cat rescue operations in the Portland and Chicago areas. If there is a shelter near and dear to your heart - Just let me know. I will personally forward a donation on your behalf. Every dollar donation will help kitties in need.

Grand Poobox Prototype #1
Grand Poobox Prototype #1

On a whim, I submitted an application to the producers of SHARK TANK (Season 6) with my newly completed Prototype 1. Lo and behold, we got a call back and it was time to pitch the GPB behind the scenes. It was a whirlwind and while we did not make the final TV series, it's probably a good thing as there was no business plan on paper yet.

Grand Poobox Prototype #2

The product engineers I worked with were true artists. They 3-D printed 12 precision-cut pieces and masterfully glued them together and sanded the seams to perfection. They then primed and painted the box a beautiful, high-gloss white. Add in the finishing touch with the new Grand PooBox logo, and I couldn't be more thrilled. And a true story to boot: While filming and taking shots with my super talented photographer (Megan Boaglio) her cat Loki (stand-in actor) climbed into Prototype 2 and "used the facilities". It was hilarious. So...I like to say "Loki Tested, Rex Approved".

You'll notice the difference between Prototype 1 and Prototype 2 is the elimination of the pull-out drawer. That steel mold alone cost an additional $30,000 - So, ADIOS to the drawer. We also increased the thickness of the upper lid to create a more sturdy, structured upper half.

THE WHOLE ENCHILADA

I'm here on Kickstarter seeking your help in raising the funds to cover the cost of the manufactured STEEL MOLDS. The molds for the Grand PooBox will cost a hefty $120,000. I know - What? Here's a quick shot of a typical steel mold that is used as part of the plastic injection molded process:

Steel molds are needed to produce the Grand PooBox

I visited with my manufacturer and was given a tour of the facilities and it was clear: The steel molds required for a product the size of the Grand PooBox are massive. Hence, the price-tag.

I will procure the remaining funds to cover the manufacturing costs related to all Grand PooBox pre-orders and Kickstarter pledge gifts. It's quite an undertaking, but with your help it's do-able! If the campaign should exceed the $120,000 goal, those funds will be greatly appreciated (and well needed) to help fund the increasing manufacturing costs of additional Grand PooBox orders.

Risks and challenges

If the Grand PooBox funding campaign proves successful, there are still risks to consider when taking a product to market. It all boils down to funding. With the steel mold costs covered as part of a successful launch, I will be in a very strong position to procure the financing for the related manufacturing costs. The time to procure those funds will be critical to stay on schedule.

Other considerations to keep in mind will be any unforeseen delays related to the manufacturing of the steel molds and/or the first-run of the Grand PooBox pre-orders. Any slight delay will certainly throw a wrench in the above schedule. Thankfully, managing large-scale, complex projects is what I do for a living. You will be the first person to know should there be any hiccups along the way, which will include a written plan of attack to realign the project schedule and deliverables. You're in good hands.
