From Clapton, to Bird, to the Studio.
I’m PJ Rasmussen. After I saw Eric Clapton rocking out to Layla at 10 years old, I knew music was my career. What I didn’t know is what that career would look like. For the next 5 years, I devoured CD's by Cream, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and other artists from that era. At 15, my guitar teacher introduced me to John Coltrane and Charlie Parker-- WHOA! It was like a musical epiphany. Over the next five years later, jazz became part of the obsession, and I was mixing in everything from folk, country, funk, Motown, and just about everything else along the way to college.
Now as a college senior, I was recently on a trip to Nashville, where executives at BMI and the Nashville Songwriters Association International listened to some of my demos and decided my music would be good for TV and Movie placement! Crazy, right? So what’s the catch?
I Need Your Help
Well, before they can present my music to producers, BMI needs better recordings than I can make on my own. They also asked for more music than I’ve ever recorded before.
How Can You Help?
That’s where you come in! I need to raise at least $6,000 in order to pay for the recording time and mastering that is so essential in making the high quality music you hear on a daily basis. That money will enable me to record 8-10 original tunes, that can then be sent to TV and Movie producers all around the country as BMI and NSAI try to convince them that my music is what they need to make their show the next big thing.
What Will the Album Sound Like?
After years of absorbing such an eclectic mix of music, I'm pleased to say that I believe the new album has bits and pieces of all of it! There are moments that reflect the simple joy of the early Beatles or the Beach Boys, and moments that reflect the intensity and passion of John Coltrane at his most fiery. My music has been compared to everyone from Simon and Garfunkel, to Joshua Redman, John Scofield, and Pat Metheny.
Most of all, I believe anyone, from the casual listener to the ardent aficionado, will find something to enjoy in this CD. This is serious music, played for fun.
Will $6,000 Cover Everything?
No. $6,000 is enough for recording, mastering, and packaging. First, the musicians have to be paid for their time in the studio and for rehearsals. I hired some of the brightest emerging stars in NY, and they need to eat, whether we're friends or not. Artists have to be payed for designing cover art, and we have to pay for promotion of the album once it's finished. Without a successful fundraiser, the project CAN NOT HAPPEN.
What Do You Get From it All?
To thank you for your support, I’ve come up with a series of unique and special rewards that connect you to every step of the process, from the rehearsals to the final mastering! I considered what I would want from a project, and tried to give pledgers something of lasting value.

Risks and challenges
So what happens once I reach my goal?
The album gets pitched to TV and Film producers all over the country. That sounds nice, doesn't it? Well, word on the street is, that's a competitive industry, and if I want to stay employed while I break into it, I can't stop there.
That means finalizing the CD release show (either in NY, NJ, or PA), and promoting the new music on my own to all the relevant venues in the Tri-State area. How do I do this? Well, as anybody knows, there are two sides to selling a product:
1) Creating a good product
2) Finding a good salesman
Like most musicians, I find the first part easier than the second. I believe I have high quality music that will speak to a wide audience. What I don't have is the resources to find a good salesman. With your support, that will be solved.
This is a chance to bring my music to a new level of public awareness, but it won't happen without a lot of hard work. That means gig hunting and promotion. With your support, I will have the resources to do this. Please take a moment and join me on this incredible ride, and together we’ll be part of something bigger than I ever imagined!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
