Often we just don’t know if something was done. Thingzo is a new device that is based on a patent for detecting and displaying the last movement or usage, helping you have more of these missing pieces of information. Now you can get manage your life better and have more peace of mind by erasing doubts.
You can think of Thingzo as an entry into the IoT world. While the Internet of Things can be a bit intimidating at times, we can help unleash the power of the Information of Things.
For example, if things could talk, how could they help you?
Just attach Thingzo to an object and you instantly know more about what happened and what needs to be done.
Whether it's the entry door, a medicine cabinet, or even a plant watering pot, Thingzo can be used almost anywhere to keep you informed of what happened.
Thingzo detects the movement of objects and shows you how much time has passed since the object was last moved. With Thingzo, you’re able to find out when something happened in an area without actually being present!
Thingzo is attached to a moveable object (door, lid, etc.). Thingzo has a clock that is always running in the background. The elapsed time is updated every minute on the clear e-paper display. The display supports up to 999 days, 23 hours, and 59 minutes.
Whenever Thingzo detects movement with its accelerometer, the internal clock is reset to 0 and starts timing again. The display will indicate that Thingzo has moved, and freezes the time since the previous movement for 20 seconds so the user can take note. In this example, 15 minutes have gone by since the previous movement. When a new movement is detected, the clock is reset to 0 and begins timing again until the next time it goes. The clock is always running, and the efficient design allows the battery to last for around 3 years.
As an example, if you share the duties of feeding the family dog, you may not know if someone else fed the dog or not. By simply sticking Thingzo on a key location like the storage door, the dog food bin or clipping it to the bag, you will always know how long it has been since the dog was fed just by glancing at the display.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, we all have rights to our privacy. Thingzo is perfect when it comes to keeping you informed of your belongings when you’re not around. Simply place Thingzo on the drawer, box, or door of your choice, and you’ll be able to tell if your siblings, roommates or hired help are getting into your things. If you rent a personal storage space or a safety deposit box at a bank, Thingzo will tell you the last time someone accessed that space.

Or if you just want to check when someone got into the cookie jar! With Thingzo’s movement-sensing technology, you’ll be able to find out this information with just a glance at the display!

Thingzo shows information on a custom display in a format of days, hours and minutes (DDD.HH:MM) for the time that has elapsed since an object last moved.
This simple, yet powerful, way of tracking movement to gather information about usage is based on a patent that was approved in 2016.
The proof-of-concept has been successfully completed using off-the-shelf components and prototyping tools in our lab. The results demonstrated that this device would be exceptionally useful in tracking usage information of many different objects.
The main components that go into the Thingzo device are a custom e-paper display, an accelerometer chip (detects movement and acceleration), a micro-controller unit (MCU), some peripheral buffers, and a battery, all contained on a printed circuit board (PCB). All these components have been selected and the PCB layout design has been completed.
All that remains is to finalize the software and fully test the device to cover all the use cases in order to have a robust, reliable product.
The product design is finished and we have made several samples with 3D printing, which provides a “looks like” prototype of the final product.
The E-Ink display gives clear visibility from different angles with highly efficient power usage and outstanding durability.
We have checked the viability of using Thingzo to help with many different tasks. For example, just stick it on top of the fish tank, and you will always know how long it has been since you last opened it to feed the fish.
As we finalize the product development and testing, we are concurrently negotiating with the supply chain and are discussing with overseas partners on the production and distribution strategy. We are confident of our success since we have prior experience and good resources in this area.
Founded in 2016, Thingzo offers simple and cost-effective ways to help with security, safety and peace of mind. Our products use a patented movement-sensing methodology to provide useful information about everyday things, allowing users to better manage their lives.
The team has over 80 years of collective experience in the hardware and electronics industry, with relationships in North America and Asia that enable the rapid and expert development and sourcing that is necessary to bring the Thingzo products to market.
We believe that a simple, elegant design is important to the usefulness of Thingzo. After many iterations and reviews, we decided that the only information we would provide is the time that has elapsed since the last detected movement. This product is strictly standalone -- we eliminated the dependence on any other device such as a smartphone or WIFI network. There are no buttons or other input device. There is no setup, no calibration, no technical expertise required. Simply take Thingzo out of the package, attach it to an object like a door or drawer, and start using it immediately. Just by tracking the last time the object moved, Thingzo can be a powerful tool to help people in their everyday lives.
We can’t thank you enough for checking out our project and helping us make Thingzo success.
There’s a bright future for Thingzo. We’ve set out with the goal to design a product that improves your life, and you’re helping us achieve that goal! We know not everyone will be able to support us with a pledge, so even if you can’t give a dollar or purchase your own Thingzo, if you’re a supporter of Thingzo, you can help us spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram and anywhere else you can think of!
Risks and challenges
As with any technology hardware project, there are always schedule risks associated with manufacturing and supply chain logistics. Due to our careful planning to ensure all portions of our product are ready on time, we feel the risks are very low when it comes to meeting our (safely-set) shipping date of July 2017. We understand the unique challenges of technology products and are familiar with how to avoid and mitigate any issues that arise.
