Simple Phone Case Blocks Corporations From Audio & Visual Spying
Simple Phone Case Blocks Corporations From Audio & Visual Spying
Stealth Case is a new smartphone case that blocks camera and microphone usage so that third parties cannot access these functions without a user knowing. Using no electronic components, the case is unhackable, easy-to-use, and reliable.
Give smart-phone owners an unhackable design that protects important conversations and visuals from being seen by unwanted parties with Stealth Case.
Stealth Case is taking it back to the basics with something that cannot be hacked. The phone case uses no electronics - only physical blockers that completely cover the microphones and cameras on a device that is manually opened and closed. Users can still enjoy full functionality with their phone, including texting, app use, and listening to music.
Cameras are fully covered and baffling blocks microphones. The top and bottom simply slide up or down to access your cameras or mics when YOU choose to access them. Otherwise, the phone functions completely as normal. You still have access to your smart screen, speakers, and device buttons.
The first iteration of the case will be compatible with iPhoneX and will have a design that baffles all three of the phone’s microphones and covers the cameras without any sacrifice to functionality. With no tech know-how needed, it’s ideal for users at any level and comes at an affordable cost. Stealth Case offers a simple solution - a case that is fuss-free and affordable with no tape-centered DIY solutions needed.
There is a case that performs the same functions, but is bulky, relies on electronic scrambling, needs you to keep a battery charged, and costs $1,000. The Stealth Case is affordable to everyone, doesn’t add unnecessary bulk, and works on its own without any app to keep running or anything else to buy ever. This is the end of being spied on by corporations, puts a stop to apps which allow you to be listened in to, and allows you to be in full control of when your cameras and mics are in use.
Solving a Growing Problem
A former journalist and current television production expert, specializing in video and audio acquisition. Working with a 12-year lead engineer from Logitech, Stealth Case was conceived and created because of media and online complaints that corporations like Facebook, Amazon, and Google might be spying on people without their knowledge. The inventor started hearing from friends and personally experiencing the phenomenon himself of talking about subjects out loud and then having ads pop up on his phone. With Stealth Case, the goal was to create a more affordable, elegant, and reusable solution versus tape, that has the simultaneous benefit of blocking audio as well. In a day and age where the mindset is to battle everything with technology, the solution in this case was to take the vulnerabilities of technology out of the equation.
Product Specific FAQs:
● Will Stealth Case offer more phone models in the future?
Short answer - that's the plan. But it can only happen if this Kickstarter campaign is successful. Each model of popular smartphone is uniquely sized, with individual placement of cameras and microphones depending on the phone model. When designing a product like the Stealth Case, it's vital to have exacting standards down to the millimeter to ensure it works as intended. This is totally possible, but master-molds for these products are extremely expensive. We are starting with the iPhone X because its camera placement and positioning, combined with its full-screen glass, was one of the tougher challenges for which to design. But we'd like to expand beyond the X to offer Stealth Case models for all of the top 10 most-carried smartphones, including more Apple models, as well as options for Samsung and Google phones.
● Is this waterproof?
Originally we talked about the idea of making the case waterproof, but technology has come so far that it appears many phone manufacturers have already taken care of this aspect for us. The iPhone X, for example, has an IP67 water-resistance rating. There are many videos you can watch of the iPhone X being submerged in a pool or bath of water, and working perfectly fine afterwards. While submerging it like this is not something we nor Apple recommend, we don't feel we can improve upon what has already been done in terms of stock water resistance already available on your device. We also are striving for a minimalist design. We don't want to add unnecessary bulk, particularly to a full-screen smartphone that's designed so elegantly. Again, this is a situation where the manufacturer has already tackled this problem for us.
● Will this case protect my phone if I drop it a lot?
The Stealth Case will provide some degree of protection, as do most cases on the market, but its primary purpose is to block your cameras and microphones. We would still recommend protecting your glass by using adhesive screen protectors, which are widely available wherever smartphone products are sold.
● Can I use this with my existing case or does it replace my case?
This replaces your existing case, and goes directly over your smartphone.
● Can’t I just use a piece of tape?
You sure can. Co-founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has photos showing tape over cameras on his own devices. But it's ugly, inconvenient, and may leave residue on your lenses. On top of that, it will do almost nothing to protect your microphones. Plus, did you really spend this much money on a device to put tape over it? Our message to Zuckerberg: We've developed a better solution for you and can't wait to have you as a customer! Zuck, we're sure you have the money, but we may even be willing to give you one for free in exchange for your honest review.
Risks and challenges
Stealth Case is a great idea that we are hoping to bring to full fruition. We want to be completely transparent and have no desire to mislead anyone. We have developed a tight-fitting case and blocking of both cameras is 100% effective. The case feels great to hold and doesn’t come off as some cheap DIY project. We have also been able to silence each microphone individually, but part of the money raised will be used to finalize this process with the most effective materials and then run tests to demonstrate the exact level of silencing produced.
We are working with some very talented engineers in Silicon Valley, and we wouldn’t run this campaign if we didn’t believe they could fulfill the mission. But as mentioned, there is always a risk as in any Kickstarter campaign that we could run into unforeseen issues. If this happens, we will do our best to return any unused portion of the money to our backers. We would only encourage you to back us if you believe in our mission and would like to help us achieve our goal of bringing an affordable privacy case to the masses.
Stealth Case is patented, so this method of camera and microphone blocking cannot be done by any other company. The money raised from this Kickstarter campaign will be used to finalize the practical aspects of the case, put it into mass production, and reinvest any profits to provide cases for more models of phones.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
