About this project
In September of 2010, I, Lanny Cordola, traveled to Pakistan to bear witness to the worst flood in the country's history, and to collaborate with some of the most renowned and well known musicians in South Asia, including Atif Aslam and members of Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn's family and band.
In the midst of my travels, I discovered many things, including the heartbreaking plight of many girls and women living in extreme poverty, discrimination and suppression. Their stories are the inspiration for Her Bravery, a collection of songs based on my personal experiences and research in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Below is a roughly edited video, shot with a flip cam, during my travels in Pakistan with Atif Aslam and noted humanitarian Todd Shea. The accompanying song "Pakistan: I Have A Dream" features Atif Aslam, Lanny Cordola, Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) and the I Love You Singers of Charsadda.
All funds raised through this project will be used for recording, production and travel in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Your generous pledges will help bring awareness to these issues, put the power of music at the service of the most vulnerable people on the planet, and help us produce a series of music projects, films, books and other creative endeavors related to the Her Bravery mission.
The video below is a session between some of the musicians from Pakistan and my friends Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke, former members of Guns N' Roses and inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2012.
This album will also feature some of the most incredible musicians from Afghanistan and Pakistan: female rappers, singers and instrumentalists, many making their recording debuts. This is truly a unique cultural, social and musical statement that transcends politics and brings together singers and artists from Grammy winners to those who reside in the margins with music as the common thread.Thank You for the support in helping this labor of love come to life.
