Architecture of Wings is a photographic series / book of dragonflies and their lattice-winged comrades.
"I'm writing this description for my friend and colleague Beverly, who is talented ... and modest. I just supported her project and would like to encourage you to do the same. Why? Because the world needs such an artist who chronicles nature in all its delicacy and wonder ....without disturbing. Another reason to support this effort: all of us benefit from the conversation that emerges as like-minded people share and champion one another in work and art that seeks to make a difference.
Beverly's images are simultaneously arresting and calming; they cause you to look and look again. Her work inspires me to get out my camera and get back to my craft.
Here is how the quiet chronicler describes the moment that resulted in this portfolio: "This project started with two unexpected dragonfly visitors on my windowsill. The complex geometries created by their overlapping wings were intriguing. This brief photo shoot resulted in a miniature portfolio, and more importantly led to discoveries of other creatures with intricate wing structures."
Her dragonfly portfolio, called Architecture of Wings, can be seen here: http://beverlypearce.com/pages/portfoliodragonflies.html
Beverly is also a chronicler of the natural sensuality of trees and the silent drama of everyday color. I've seen those portfolios and will encourage her to submit them through Kickstart as well. Who knows, maybe we'll all have elegant prints on our walls or given as gifts to friends.
You may be new to this approach to financially supporting an artist. Here's how it works: You click over on the right and make an underwriting pledge - sort of like underwriting your favorite NPR or PBS program. And like underwriting an NPR or PBS program, you get a thank-you gift: a print or a complete portfolio. And like underwriting with NPR or PBS, you have the satisfaction of knowing that that you helped along a project that specifically resonates with you - in this case an unassuming artist who is sharing some of the world's fragile magic.
Note: If the project does not get fully pledged by its July 7 deadline, your credit card will not be charged.
Please look to your right >>> at the underwriters' thank-you gifts, including large archival prints suitable for framing and a limited edition portfolio. All prints, of course, are printed on archival paper. And it's worth mentioning that the value of the giveaways actually exceeds the amount of the pledges.
I assure you that I am not a wealthy, but it is important to support a fellow artist and seeker of beauty who is out there doing good work and inspiring me - and all of us - to do the same. Whatever your craft, consider how this work has moved you to consider unlikely subjects. This Kickstarter forum is new to me , but I find this quiet and direct approach to seeking support is compatible with the calm elegance of this work and with Beverly's approach. Perhaps this also will inspire you to revisit your craft, to rededicate - and then reach out to a new community that in turn will support you. I look forward to seeing your work here soon and in joining you in conversation about seeking beauty and elegance in what is all to often a harried world.
Let the exchange continue ....and count me in.
