That's right! After nearly 3 years of playing lively shows up and down Minnesota's North Shore and beyond, Plucked Up String Band is releasing their debut full-length album!
"Rooftop to Floor" features thirteen energizing original songs that exemplify the group's unique neo-bluegrass sound. Recording and mixing was done at Sparta Sound by Rich Mattson starting in December 2017 and will be mastered by Mike Noyce at April Base Studios. The illustrious Jeff Niesen has contributed his gorgeous artwork that reflects the sonic textures of the album - beautiful but often hauntingly austere at the same time.
The album will be released on CD, and come with a full booklet of lyrics from Elliot, Amanda, and Will along with much more of Jeff's intricate artwork. It's also expected to be available digitally on iTunes, Spotify, and the ilk.
We're looking for that big final push of support from all our friends and listeners near and far to make this accomplishment possible! Though the songs are laid down and nearly done incubating, we still need to cover the costs of their production, mastering, and digital distribution. Thats on top of the costs of printing CDs and creation of upcoming merch, among other things. There's so much that goes into putting out a quality album, but we know you want to hear it!
It's been a long journey and a learning process so far, but it's nearly complete! It all comes down to YOU! We're calling on friends in the Northland to support their famously vibrant music scene. We also are hoping for the support of bluegrass fans, newgrass fans, and lovers of unique, original songwriting from all over!
Thank you for your support!!
About the Band
Plucked Up String Band formed in Grand Marais, MN in the summer of 2015 after county-wide dobro workhorse Bill Hansen wanted to form a new band using classic string band instruments to play traditional American tunes. He enlisted Will Moore on bass, Matt Nesheim on banjo, Amanda Hand on vocals and guitar, and Elliot Noyce on mandolin. At the first practice, Elliot instead showed up with 5 original songs for the group to try, which were more intended for a punk band. The two styles fused together and thus the "astroturf" sound of the band was born. Soon after, Kieran Scannell joined on drums, creating new dimensions of music to explore. Since then they've played together as far as Montana, and been returning performers at the Ashland Folk Festival, Radio Waves Music Festival, TPT-2's Almanac, and Duluth's Chester Creek Series.
Risks and challenges
Not making the goal would return all funds to the supporters and we get nada. It would be heartbreaking, and many of the things we have planned for the release and following summer would far less financially feasible. Every little bit helps, and every supporter matters to us greatly!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
