CAFE AT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE
pop culture inspired burgers that are out of this world...
Greetings and salutations,
My name is Andrew Kinsella from Trafford in South Manchester. I want to bring all my passions together to make a unique amazing experience for our customers
We want to create an experience for fans to enjoy. Sci-fi, Fantasy, Comics, Games, GEEKS, whatever label you want to put on it we are passionate about these things and know we are not the only ones.
I have worked in kitchens for over 15 years and I am currently working at Stockyard in Hale after a few years as head chef working at Blue dog bar in Altrincham. Blue dog became known for it's great home-made burgers and spent its time in the top ten places to eat in Altrincham on Tripadvisor. I am currently working at American themed restaurant Stockyard in Hale part time while I doing pop culture events in my van.
2 years ago we ran a kickstarter hoping to open a cafe and raised almost 10k but sadly it wasn't enough to get our project funded. We went back to the drawing board, got ourselves a van so we could get out there and now we are back better than ever. Armed with some great positive feedback from our events we are hoping to take the next step in upgrading our van with the long term goal or setting up a cafe
I am a massive fan of Star wars, The X-files, Buffy the vampire slayer, Lord of the rings, Game of thrones, comics, retro gaming, 80s cartoons and pretty much anything else geeky you can think of. Over the last few years I have been working on a menu of food from and inspired by these films and shows.
What inspired you to start up this business?
At Blue dog bar we ran a Doctor Who night to celebrate the shows 50th year. We created a themed menu and decorated the bar for a screening and it was a great success. It gave me the idea that this would be a great concept as a permanent establishment. We were already doing the odd pop culture themed special and this seems to be the ideal way to combine two passions and bring my love for food together with my love of all things geeky.
The phenomenal popularity of burgers is easy to understand. Although they are simple they can be like a blank canvass and incredibly diverse. With a good imagination and good ideas of what works well together you can practically make a million different burgers. Its the diversity and the inspiration to create new ideas that really excites us. Plus doing something that so many people do also means you have to try extra hard to be different and exciting
What will the van be like?
Over the last 12 months we have proved that people really like our food and really like our ideas but what will the van be like? we ultimately want to create something visually appealing for our customers, our current van is a great example of that, but this will be on a bigger scale
Do I have to be a GEEK to enjoy this?
Thats the beauty of the concept, Almost everyone loves burgers and good food. Even if you don't enjoy the geeky element of our van you should still feel welcome enough to come try our food and enjoy yourself
We have an opportunity to make something amazing here. We have already witnessed first hand how much people enjoy our food and the concept. This is a great opportunity for YOU to be part of our crew and help us create something out of this universe.

Risks and challenges
The main reason is the bubble bursting on the gourmet burger trends. We believe this isn't going away, people will always LOVE a good burger. and the fact that our will be homemade will hopefully set us apart from your average place. Plus we will have an ever developing menu that will be able to cope with our customers demandsLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
