We couldn't have done this without you, it fills us with happiness and joy that you've got us to $23k funded. Needless to say we didn't know if we could find you but you found us. Now we're adding a stretch goal of $30,000 so that we don't have to keep asking for favors, or pay reduced rates for crew. And when the film's released, we can pay for festival entrance fees and a designed poster. We've come this far together let's make sure this film can make some noise.

It comes as quite a surprise that in the 21st century we still live in a world where you’re criticized for speaking openly about the choice to live childfree. To Kid Or Not To Kid goes deep into the lives of two women as they search for ways to support each other in making the decision to live without kids. Maxine, 45, surrounded by friends who have made the decision to have children, finally faces up to her choice and anxiously awaits the backlash when she “comes out” as childfree. Megan, younger and bolder at 25, battles stubborn local doctors and harsh stigma to undergo elective sterilization. She’s never wanted kids, so why can’t she make the choice for herself? After experiencing a huge loss in her personal life, Maxine comes out to those closest to her for the very first time. Will she be made to feel better for it, or lonelier and weirder than ever?
Why We’re Making This Film
We’re making this film for all women and men everywhere, especially those who have been judged for their choice to live childfree. We want to show that these people are not unnatural or inherently wrong - we are normal people, living our lives and contributing to society just like everyone else. Women and men are expected to have children and often sidelined when they don’t.
With this film, we’re confronting issues faced not only by women but by the global population as a whole. Women’s reproductive rights are essential in today's world, and we seek to highlight women who proudly follow their own path, and empower those making their own choices, whether that choice is to have kids - or not. In an increasingly overpopulated world, shouldn't those who decide not to have children be venerated, and not maligned? This is a journey of discovery and some of the amazing people filmed along the way all have answers or personal experiences to share that make this film unmissable. There are laughs and there are tears. Maxine Trump's last film also had a powerful social message, the New York Times' Critics' Pick movie, Musicwood.
We're very proud to say that our entire field production team - from sound recordist to cameraperson, to director and production interns - is composed of strong, creative women. To Kid Or Not To Kid is a film with an urgent women's rights message at its heart, and we're proud that our #girlcrew reflects that!

What will this Kickstarter pay for?
We chose Kickstarter because we feel this is an issue which affects everyone, from a biological and environmental perspective. If you choose to fund this documentary, we guarantee that your money will be used to produce the best film possible (we've made them before - check out our lovely reviews below!) You’ll be helping us to pay talented staff, provide valuable equipment, and travel to speak to women and men whose voices need to be heard.
Kickstarter funds will be paying for final shoots, a summer of editing (no summer tans for us), color correction, music composition, production insurance to make sure no one can bankrupt us, and legal fees to make doubly sure no one can bankrupt us.

Maxine Trump, Director & Producer
Maxine Trump's feature documentary Musicwood, was a New York Times Critics' Pick, a festival award-winner and played in theaters, and TV networks around the world. TO KID OR NOT TO KID is Maxine's latest documentary.
Maxine has directed short documentaries for the TV network TNT, Sundance Channel, BBC, TLC etc. She worked for the BBC in London for seven years as a development executive for scripted comedy before emmigrating to the USA, working as a TV commercial director and producer for eight years. She won BDA awards for her work on numerous commercial projects for Network TV and agency clients, including AMC, National Geographic, PBS, BBC America, Animal Planet, Comedy Central, American Cancer Society, L'Oreal, Oreos etc.
Marie Vanderrusten, Production Assistant
With a Bachelor Degree in Communication & Media Studies, Marie started to work in a Documentary Production Company in Brussels. She moved to New York City to learn more about Documentary Filmmaking. Now based in Brooklyn, she directed, produced and edited her first short documentary called Home Free and is currently working on several documentary projects as an editor assistant.
Aifric Ní Chríodáin, Production Intern
Aifric worked in the arts, higher education, and youth outreach in her native Ireland before relocating to the US in 2016. A passionate activist on feminist and LGBTQ issues, she graduated in 2015 with a joint major in Film Studies and French from Trinity College Dublin. She currently resides in Queens, NY.
Josh Granger, Editor
Josh worked as story producer for the first season of the award-winning real-life series “Random 1” on A&E. He has also produced a number of 60-minute shows for National Geographic Television: an episode of their flagship Explorer series, two episodes of “Dogtown,” a special on the stadiums of the World Cup and the Indian Air Force-centered “Mission Udaan.” As a producer and editor he has worked for the past 15 years producing and editing documentary programming for channels such as A&E, TBS, TNT, National Geographic and BBC America, worked for 3 years in the marketing department at The Learning Channel and has received two Broadcast Design Awards for his work in television.
