I don't know about you, but I (Erin Schwartz-owner and operator of Stacked) have always tried to be a do-gooder. Up to this point, I have been the person who always does what I can for everyone else and never asks for help myself. Secretly, I have been wishing with all of my heart for "Karma" to come to me (mainly via the lottery) to enable the financial means to make my dream come true. But, what I have realized is, "Karma" is probably a very busy lady, so I am finally going to take my turn and ask for help. Help to assist Karma in making my dreams a reality!
I have brought myself and Stacked to Northern VA this year. Things have been going wonderful and I have big plans for Stacked. The goal is to get a studio to not only create my custom cakes in, but to double as a premier U.S. school of caking! (Caking is the art of cake decorating of course!) I have students ready and awaiting classes! I myself will teach classes as well as host world renowned cake decorators from all over, including the U.S.! Many U.S. decorators I know travel the world teaching their craft, but alas...there is no where here for them to teach! I want to grant students, teachers and even myself the opportunity to meet, learn, share and enjoy our mutual passion with one another. The only obstacle in my way is having the funds to get to the point of opening. I need financial support to be able to lease a studio and purchase necessary tools and equipment. Some things that raising $15,000 will enable me to buy are sturdy stainless steel work tables for students, large commercial refrigerators to keep cakes in and a commercial oven to bake cakes for customers and students!
Unfortunately, I find most banks and services really only like to "help" those with a moderate and steady income (which anyone who isn't rich, and is trying to open a business knows they don't take personal profit at all and keep all proceeds within the business to allow it to grow), those who are wealthy, or those whose "new business" has already been established for at least two years with records of it's profit...I'm not sure how any of this equates to them helping new businesses looking for start up funding...but I have found myself here with you fine people! With your help, I plan on hosting my first classes by Spring of 2015! My goal here of $15,000 is not all I need, but that would be a HUGE help! I cannot express my gratitude to you all!
As you can see from the cakes on this page, they are extremely unique! I would love to share my passion with other decorators, hobbyists, clients, charities and the world! At my school there will be anywhere from 2 to 6 classes in a month! There will be different classes for different people and interests. Whether you are a beginner or professional, wanting to learn to sculpt cakes or master classical piping techniques and even one on one classes for anything specific you want to learn (so long as it is cake or dessert related). I will teach the one on one classes and many others. However, I will be bringing in highly skilled teachers to share and teach students their own techniques as they create one of a kind cakes together! Classes may focus on specific mediums to work with, creating realistic flowers, sculpting, painting-the possibilities of what you can learn and what can be taught are endless! I will be more than open to any suggestions of what people want to learn, if there is not already a class addressing it. Prices for classes will range based on supplies needed, length of class, and costs to bring teachers in (if not taught my myself). Please lend a hand to "Karma" and myself in making this dream a reality!

Risks and challenges
The reason I am trying to get my funding situated as quickly as possibly is to ensure that I have an adequate amount of time before opening, including set-backs. If for some reason there was an insane last minute delay which overlapped my first class being held, I have various options (such as renting a conference room in a hotel) and bringing in tables and supplies to make the class happen! As I said, my biggest obstacle is the funding. I am fully confident in conquering any and every other hurdle! I must add in, I have an amazing support team behind me, including various people within the industry that have worked every aspect of opening, running and sustaining business!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
