What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

Alamanda is a mobile application that allows users to connect to other users who share the same interest in pick up sports. Users are able to create, play, and review a variety of pick up sports around their geographical location. If a user decides to participate in a pick up sport, they will be given step by step directions to the designated location via Google Maps. This application is created for the average athlete or former athlete who can longer compete but still enjoys to play the game of his/her choice from time to time. As well as individuals who take enjoyment in playing a specific sport during some down time.

The coordination of pick up sports has always been a very difficult task. Although social media applications are very common now nowadays, they fail to address a need that athletes want fulfilled. The need to properly coordinate a pickup game of their interest and invite others who share the same interest to come out and play. Alamanda connects people that live around the same geographical location together. Whenever a game is created in a users city, that user will be able to view the game and join the game.

We offer our users eight sports that are fairly easy to play without heavy equipment. The sports that we offer include soccer, football, basketball, baseball, tennis, ultimate frisbee, cricket, and rugby. Our decision to choose those sports in particular was based on research that we conducted. First we researched the top ten sports in the world, then from that list we looked at what sports would need the least equipment to play.

Risks and challenges

Once the application is complete, my next challenge will be to show the world what it does. Currently the plan is to allow users to log in with already existing social media accounts and share the application with their friends and associates. We will also be starting a youtube account and a couple of social media pages to promote the application.

Another challenge that I would have to face, is how would I continue to engage users? We have a list of features for the application that would allow user to connect to even more people and increase the user friendly bar to another level. Currently I cant add them to the application because I do not have the funds for the devalopers.
