It was supposed to be mostly harmless. But that's always how these things start, isn't it? Poppy Pepper and new girl Cassia Caraway form a fast friendship at Vista Vale's Mason Montgomery Preparatory Academy, sparked by a rivalry with snotty rich girl, and leader of the Lady Rangers, Saffron Longfellow. When their plot to sabotage Saffron and her crew's upcoming brownie bake sale grows beyond their control, they soon find themselves the queenpins of an illicit brownie empire.
If you're familiar with Nutmeg, you know this story, and if you're not, welcome! Nutmeg is a YA culinary coming-of-age comic about crime, baking, and growing up. We're embarking on a journey to collect and print the Fall arc—the first six issues—into a single, sweet hardcover edition. We still love the trade paperback collections that have been released previously, of course, but we feel this represents a fuller realization of our goal for the book. In addition to comic shops, we're aiming to get the book into libraries and in front of the eyes of even more readers, and this can allow us to do just that. This new edition features 164 pages of content, including some bonus material. And it's graced with a gorgeous new cover by series artist and co-creator, Jackie Crofts.
"This is the kind of comic we need more of; intelligent accessible and creative that is perfect for getting young adults into reading comics." (Comic Spectrum)
"Nutmeg is exactly what we need more of in the comic industry, and hopefully this series becomes the hit it deserves to be." (Graphic Policy)
"It's an all-ages tale that is willing to have over the top fun while taking just a light and intriguing walk on the mysterious side." (Comicosity) "
[W]riter James Wright and artist Jackie Crofts dress up these crime and detective tropes in a cheery outer shell with lush pastels and sweeping lines to give the story a light, breezy feel." (PopOptiq)
On the rewards end of things we've got some cool goodies: patches, enamel pins, Nutmeg oven mitts(!), and even the chance for a digital portrait of yourself drawn in the style of Nutmeg.
The $7,000 goal is to help cover the cost of printing and shipping the books, as well as the production and distribution of the other rewards.
All six (6) issues that comprise this hardcover edition of Nutmeg are complete, as is Jackie's cover for the collection, so we don't foresee any in getting the book to print. Some of the rewards (patches, enamel pins) are being created by third-party sources, so while there is the possibility of a delay, we expect to have all the rewards in place well before our proposed deadline. Naturally, when shipping items is involved, there can be some risk involved, and have taken this into account for this campaign as well.
