Jim Mason of SIM, who was integral in the birth of the Africa Bible Commentary, has been a friend of Oasis International since the 1970s and helped us begin our efforts in Nigeria in 1994. A decade later, Oasis was invited to be one of two English language co-publishers of the Africa Bible Commentary, a role we continue to fulfill to this day. We greatly value the impact of the Africa Bible Commentary and how, in many ways, it has paved the way for the Africa Study Bible.
A few key differences:
• If the Africa Bible Commentary was written for the educated pastor/elder up to the theologian, the Africa Study Bible has the audience of the common literate Christian to the pastor incorporating a sixth grade reading level.
• The Africa Bible Commentary was written by 70 scholars and editors from 20 nations. The material found in the Africa Study Bible is from over 350 scholars, pastors, ministry leaders, and editors from 50 nations.
• The Africa Bible Commentary is a commentary that rightly concentrates on the text first, pointing out special African connections, whereas the Africa Study Bible first concentrates on the application of the text to life in Africa.
