Monstrous March Madness Winner

All Hail Elder Thing!

Bow down or run away. It doesn't matter... The Elder Thing has defeated all others, taking the crown as the Monstrous March Madness winner. To celebrate this victory, two things will happen:

(1) The Elder Thing will be featured in the inner sleeve as a beautiful art piece inside the Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for Pathfinder book.

(2) We'll add a foil card of the Elder Thing to the Monster Deck.

What Monster Deck?

Oh, yeah. Sorry... The last and final stretch goal.

When we reach $175,000 every backer that has pledged $100 or more will receive a tarot-sized deck of monster cards ($25 value). On one side will be a photo of a fully painted miniature; on the other, the Pathfinder stats for that monster, from the book.

The cards will look something like this - but much much better!

Last Two Designer Pledges

One last thing... In case you missed it, we add the last two designer pledges. Each is a unique opportunity to design a monster with Sandy Petersen - so grab them while ou can!

Kind of bummed, I had pledged $40 to get the PDF and then add on $25 for a deck of cards. But I guess you can't add the cards to a PDF-only pledge, fair enough. If I switch my pledge to the hardcover book only, can I get the Glowy Elder Thing? I am on the mailing list.

I know what you meant, yo. xD
I don't think there'd be confusion as Night-guants are quite distinctive, being faceless and having awesome barbed tails. Still, I'm not complaining: Elder Things are indeed super-badass. ;)

My point was to the uninitiated the Nightgaunt could be misrecognized as a diferent creature easily while the Elderthing would be truely alien.

In my opinion that makes it the better choice.

FYI I did not vote in any round.

Oh yeah; for sure it has its other wings put away. But the Elder Things' radial symmetry is incredibly awesome and I personally would have liked the model better if it had more than two wings out and better showcased their weirdness. Like I said though, my feelings towards the model aren't very negative, and I do like how the Elder Thing is "active" rather than idle.

When I look at the Elder Thing mini I just view it as having the other sets of wings folded away, which fits very neatly with Lovecraft's description in AtMoM...

Since the final stretch goal is about to get nailed, any chance of one FINAL final stretch goal where the Elder Things could be used as a playable character? That would be SO BOSS... ;D

      @Sandy
I am sorry to say that I am one of the Elder Thing model skeptics. ;)
I too much like that the Elder Thing is more "active" than other designs, but with only two wings spread the model has a more "bisymmetrical" appearance which makes me biased against it. Of course, every creative decision has both benefits and costs, and art really comes down to taste anyway. Overall, I am very happy with the models produced for 'Cthulhu Wars'.

Pardon my presumption since I have no idea what's possible from your end but, due to the Elder Thing and Night-guant's popularity, would it be possible for both to get foil cards? In any case, I for one am totally fine with having a unique Elder Thing illustration for the book, since the Elder Thing did win the contest.

Frankly I would have been happy with either. But I am pretty proud of our Elder Thing model. Usually they are portrayed as pretty docile and non-threatening. Ours is ready to pounce.

I'd be happy with pretty much any choice, but I'm specially satisfied since ATMOM is my favorite story, and Cthulhu Wars' approach to the Elder Thing's design is just phenomenal.
Also, happy about the Monster Deck.

Night-guants are extremely awesome and unique in terms of lore, abilities, and special relationship to Lovecraft, but I am happy to support the winner of the vote. :)

What was the final tally in terms of votes (not including repeat votes)?
I really like how close it was; it was a good battle! :D

Elderthing is the right choice as a uniquely Lovecraftian monster.

Nightgaunt could double as just a demon.
