Bholes, Zoogs, and Slime Molds!

Posted by Sandy Petersen (Creator)

Here are some concepts for the Bhole, Zoog, and Slime mold. Along with many of the concepts, these are the preliminary sketches, so they may go through design changes before I make model sheets and send them out to get sculpted. I am now going to go back through the concepts that I've worked on during the Kickstarter and update designs and make model sheets for them. So there will be many more updates to come! Hopefully they will keep you guys satisfied until the game ships :)

OMG that Bhole is freaking epic...can't wait to see it WREAK HAVOC!!! MUAHAHAHAHA IA! IA! IA!

    2. Skarsnik Larsen

Not a big fan of the Zoog personally, looks to beefy and much less like the forest dwelling cat hating tricksters I grew up to love :)

@Joseph Bouthiette Jr I saw fire completed that way on another KS called Warriors of Darkmyre. Production-wise it may be easier to produce all the neutrals together on the same frame in the same color. Any colored plastic could be used but acrylic would be entirely different. Without Shathak sponsorship a slime mold is just a hazardous mercenary.

bhole! bhole! bhole! how big it will be?

    5. Sandy Petersen 21-time creator

For the first time ever, I have Zoog art that I liked.

@Mithra sorry to pop your bubble for translucent slime molds (that would be pretty killer) but as far as has been determined, all neutral entities will be grey, slime mold included.

    7. Michael Nunez on

The Zoog is a star-nosed mole on steroids!!! Was this the inspiration for the Zoog, Richard?

    8. Jon Simpson on

Amazing work as ever Richard. It was useful that you mentioned the process of revising and updating concept work. Considering the work you and team have already done Im confident that if this is your standard the final results will be excellent.

    9. Jason Wright on

Glad we reached the Zoog CE. Didnt purchase dreamlands map but that concept art is incredible!

    10. Alex Wickersham on

Brixx, maybe he could work on an MMO. "Go kill 7 Cthulhus and I'll give you 2000 XP and 27 Copper Pieces."

    11. Alex Bass on

Slime Mold looks amazing! It's a shame we didn't quite reach it as a stretch goal.

    12. Scott Huber on

@AstralWanderer - we did miss it as a stretch goal, but it's still part of the Yuggoth expansion.

Hmm...I thought we just missed the Slime Mold stretch goal. Is it being added anyway? If so, awesome!

I have never seen a rendering of a Zoog that I liked until now. Very well done, Richard. That little critter looks like it could hold its own in the Dreamlands Previously, even in hordes, I never thought much about their menace. You very well may be redefining the look on many of the Mythos critters for generations to come. No pressure... ;)

    15. The Other One on

Love all three of these! Especially pleased to see (for the first time in my experience) a Zoog that doesn't look cute. Lovely work, Richard!

Any way the Slime Molds will be transluscent acrylic? I assume they might not be green. At least not the same as Cthulhu's color to avoid the association.

    17. Brixx on

Is it wrong I want to see Sandy do some video game monsters again? Picture what we'd get from a better engine than DOOM's

    18. aleksandar stossitch on

      don't spam the bhole

    19. Stampede

      The bhole was the goal...

    20. Magnus Mercury on

I love all the concept artwork we've got to see so far! I know descriptions for a lot of these creatures are vague (at best), and I think Richard has done an awesome job bringing them to life in a sensible-yet-alien way. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for Cthulhu Wars and Green Eye Games!

    21. Alex Wickersham on

So did you make the Slime Mold that awesome just to punish us for not quite reaching its stretch goal?

    22. Justin Gadze on

They all look really nice! The bhole is my favourite.

    23. Claymore Nash on

Love them all! I pictured Zoogs more creepy cute, but I can live with this :)

    24. C on

Zoog: "Oh, man. I shouldn't have had that last tequila in Vegas!"

      @James: Sure. Pet him. :D…

Thanks for the art. Good work!

    25. Jeff Richards

Richard, these are awesome. I have no idea why your arm hasn't fallen off from all this artwork...

    26. JM Fernandez on

I reallly wish they'd impose a picture of say a cultist in these concept art pictures. And scale the cultist's size to show how big the miniature concepts are supposed to be. As it is still dunno if I'll be impressed or not by the bhole.

    27. Alderman Jack on

Wow, you managed to make even the Slime Mold look amazing.

    28. Sean C. J. Bourke on

Zoogs eat cats in the Dreamlands unless I am thinking of something else...

    29. James Starke on

@Rachel But he is adorable! Who wouldn't want to pet that face?

    30. Rachel Young on

I always imagined the Zoog as somewhat cute but always very deadly! Am I wrong?

These are great. Come next year, I really hope the map expansions hit retail, since I can't afford them now, but I imagine they're going to be grand.

    32. John D on

Now that's a Bhole! (How will I endure with only one?)

    33. Realm Master K

Those are awesome. The Bhole looks like the Spice Worms out of Dune. I always loved Dune. You are doing such an awesome job on these minis. How could I pledge anything but DVM.

RMK aka Summoner of the Twice Invoked

    34. Aidan Jace Cox on

I am also a big fan of the slime mold.

    35. James Starke on

I was curious about how you were going to do the slime mold, since, well... it's slime, but you definitely pulled it off.
