We Did It!!

Ia! Ia! Thanks SO much for all the wonderful support. You guys and gals are the best and I am honored to have been able to work together with you to create this game. Tears are literally filling my eyes at this moment when I think of what we've accomplished.

When I started this kickstarter, I intended it to be my last hurrah - my swan song - my final venture into Cthulhu and boardgames, after which I would support my family by taking an honorable job working for another firm, designing whatever games they sent my way. I had expected Cthulhu Wars to be no more than cash cow, a side income.

But you changed all that. You made this not only a victory, but one of the biggest successes Kickstarter has ever had. Instead of this game being my swan song, it has become my phoenix, rising from the ashes and igniting a new and fierce course for me - Now Cthulhu Wars, which is MY dream game, will be my life for the foreseeable future. It turns out that it was YOUR dream game, too. Thank you thank you thank you.

I view you all as my peers and fellows. If you see me at a convention or elsewhere, please stop by and wave a friendly tentacle!

Yog-Sothoth Neblod Zin,

Hey guys I have been out of town for a bit, just barely got back on the interwebs for a sec. Y'all are the greatest. i have been reading aloud your comments to my old dad, who is the person that first introduced me to Lovecraft, lo, these 50 years ago and he was mightily impressed.

Good for you Sandy!!! :) I am excited about the Christmas gift I bought myself! :) Yay!

    3. Michael D'Auben on

Congratulations! You certainly deserve the success for creating such an amazing game.

    4. C on

And see if you can have some Cthulhu adventures written that use the CW miniatures! (:

Congrats on all your success, really, you guys earned it.

Congratulations Sandy and GEG! I´m new at Kickstarter and I wasn´t sure about spending so much money on a boardgame but to be honest the thing that convince me to pledge for DVM was your involvement in every post, forum, interview, etc, etc; your passion for this game and the Lovecraft mythos are really palpable and they made me trust in the quality of the project. Thank you for giving your best!!!

It's possible a Cthulhutech Wars expansion???

Congratulations Sandy and everyone else! For me this project not only gave me the opprtunity to invest in a game I believe will be absolutely worth it, support our culture of gaming and horror, which I believe still is helping me grow as a human and a gamer and lastly it gave me inspiration to keep working on the boardgame I want to do, which was sitting on the shelf! Hurrah!

    9. Sean C. J. Bourke on

Sandy, your games from the 80s and onwards like CoC and Runequest (not to mention several video games and boardgames) helped open a whole new world to me, and besides introducing me to Lovecraft you have accomplished something that has changed my life forever. I just wanted to say thanks for everything, and this game I would have gone all out for even if it wasn't done by a cultural icon/hero like you, because it is potentially the best boardgame I will have ever played!!!

    10. Arthur K on

Wow this is my 1st Mytho kickstarter and I havn't gone mad!

    11. Dead Gamers Society on

This really is a special project, and one that could only come from someone who has a passion for quality gaming and the writings of the Old Gent of Providence. I think you do Lovecraft proud, good sir, and I salute you!

@Ian - YES, we will all be migrated to a post-KS pledge manager, where we can upgrade our pledge levels and add more add-ons as we like. Decreases won't be allowed, but the sky is the limit on the upside. Differences in cost will be charged separately through said manager.

    14. Ian Borchardt

Just discovered that I apparently hadn't updated my pledge to the level I thought it was. Will there be any opportunity to do so via other means? Either now or as part of the survey?

    15. Alan Leipzig on

I'm the adult I am because you got the child me reading stuff WAY beyond his age level. A chunk of cash is the least I can do for thanks.

    16. Marquie on

Passion always shows through Sandy. I'm looking forward to playing the game in the great down-under. I seem to remember setting one of my Cthulhu adventures in the Australian dreamtime way back in the 1980's and setting up such a convoluted set of clues that I think even I went insane.. Maybe a dreamtime extension/expansion is called for. Love ya work.

    17. Justin Gadze on

Sandy- When you dream on such a grand scale as this, you can't help but inspire all the people around you! look how many people share the same dream now! 4389 and counting.
Well done on an amazing accomplishment, both to you Sandy & the team @ GEG.
I think old HPL would be proudly looking down (up?) on how you honoured his work, giving it new life yet again.

As an aside, and because it interests me, I think this was as successful as it was partially due to what I'm going to call the "Apple Effect" - that is, premium components which have been painstakingly selected, at a premium price.

We consumers are actually quite willing to pay for quality. However, in an age where the next quarter's bottom line is all that matters it's far more common to see corners cut and quality lowered. Usually there is no recourse, because the people making these decisions aren't customers!

In certain cases, when the people in charge put themselves in the shoes of their target demographic, amazing things arise. Things which otherwise wouldn't have seen the light of day.

This is one of those cases.

    19. Bryan Thao Worra on

      Thanks, Sandy.

This was the campaign we've waited a lifetime for. I hope you'll also create a grace-period for folks to contribute by paypal or other means to support your work beyond the KS campaign soon. :) You changed my life with your work, and for that I am forever grateful. Here's to all of the best that you yet present to the world!

    20. Bruno Follmann on

What an amazing ride it has been. From the start I got hooked by the extreme quality of the game, the artworks and the miniatures. Then I saw how friendly Sandy (and whoever else answers for the project) were with us backers, taking their time to reply to our questions and to ponder about our suggestions. And also, the community. Never before it was so fun just sitting watching the comments section. You guys and gals are all so fun, polite and supportive.
So, really glad about how successful the project turned out to be. Sandy and GEG deserve it, and so do we, the maddened cultists which form the fanbase.
Deep respect from a humble Brazilian.

Congratulations on such a successful campaign!!!

This was a dream game, and I'm excited to have been a part of it! Call of Cthulhu was what broke me out of the D&D red box and made me a fan of not only HPL, but games and story telling in general. 7th grade was a long time ago, and it feels like this game brings it full circle. Thank you for a wonderful geek life, and I wish you guys the best!

    23. Johan Frojd on

Congratulations, and THANK YOU! You have done some fantastic work here!

Being one of the lucky DVMs, I couldn't be happier with the outcome, and with how great everything looks. Arrival of these goodies will be like Christmas (Which in my household is celebrated with the Scary Solstice CDs from HPLHS and Cthulhu at the top of the tree), New Year's eve and birthday combined!
December can't come soon enough... Again, thank you!

Congratulations Sandy and Co. I'm really pleased that the KS has been so successful, and I'm proud and grateful to be a part of bringing this game to fruition.
Reading this update was the most satisfying part of the project, knowing that I and the other supporters have been a part of forging a new and exciting life path for you.

It's going to bean amazing game, & I am thrilled to be privileged enough to be a small of the process. It also fills my idealistic heart with joy to see ordinary people making things happen without the pernicious influence of THE MAN.

P.S. - kudos on running an exciting & organized campaign.

That sir, is one amazing swan song. There is something to be said about multiple tiers and easily achievable but numerous stretch goals.

Can't wait to play your magnus opus.

I'm happy I jumped in. I watched many projects, temped to pledge but always avoiding it because I'm on a budget. But this game looks just too perfect to skip it!
Should you ever come to Italy again, maybe for Lucca Comics&Games, please tell me cause I'd be honored to make your knowledge. We even are sorta colleagues, me being a videogame developer, so I'd love to chat with you.

Stumbled across a thread on 4chan's /tg/ boards for this one day. Having been a fan of many of your other works, Sandy, it was a treat to see something like this being done, as well as be a part of it. I do so look forward to seeing the game grow into its full glory. Will be waiting at my front door this winter with bated breath :)
