All of the plastic figures have been produced!

That’s right, ALL of them. This means that there now exist thousands of Azathoths, Elder Things, Wendigos, etc. ready to unleash upon the word. At this time, the factory is in the final stage of completing the printing of the paper & cardboard. The next step is to collate all the items into the boxes (it wouldn’t do to have a Tsathoggua inside the Windwalker box, would it?) Once collation is complete, all will be shipped! This time, we are told we will have a tracking number for the ship (and down the line). Then, once the packages are organized at the fulfillment house in the port, you will get your own personal tracking number, and can follow your package to your door. We are using a different, more experienced, shipping company. This company is costing us slightly more money, but we are paying for it, not you. It provides way better service, which is what’s important.

We also got some bad news (not for you, but for Petersen Games). The EU “discovered” Kickstarter in February, and is now enforcing VAT on all items – it can no longer be avoided by labeling things “rewards” nor “gifts” nor can we label an item as having a value less than what was paid. This significantly increases Petersen Games’ costs in shipping to Europe. You still don’t have to pay it – we are doing it on your behalf. But it has bumped up our costs by an unexpected approximately $50,000 which makes us sad.

Below is a low-rez .jpeg of the cardboard tokens for the Yuggoth map. The brain cylinder tokens are exactly the right size to sit on top of a plastic gate. The triangular tokens in the lower right hand corner are (from left to right): The Watcher Token, the Slime token, the No Slimes Allowed token, and the Laboratory. Just so you know, the Slime, No Slime, and Lab token are NOT used on the Yuggoth map - they are included for people to use in their own home-brew designs to use aspects of Yuggoth on other maps.

Repeat of previous information!

Please take care of this if it has slipped off your radar! If you have ordered any Cthulhu Wars items beyond the core game (whether via the original Kickstarter or pre-ordered from our website or at a convention), you should have been sent an email from support+cthulhu-wars@crowdox.com.

In that email you should see your address. If it is incorrect, please click the big "Update my Address" button. This link takes you to a page where you can update your address. After submitting it on that page, you will see ALL the items you have ordered. If the address is correct, you still need to click "Update" if you want to see all the items you have ordered.

You do NOT need to have or create a CrowdOx login to update your address nor to see your items. If your address is correct already, and you do not click the "Update" button, we will still ship your items. But it's nice to know that you have consciously seen it and confirmed.

If you have any issues or questions, please email support@petersengames.com

Onslaught Two still coming

I’d like to discuss Cthulhu Wars Onslaught Two for a bit, and its purpose. Due to various delays, increased costs, and the EU’s renewed rapacity, we found that we could not afford to produce EXTRA copies of the expansions for sale in stores.

Do not fear – all of the copies which original backers and pre-orders contracted for are still on the way. We are only talking about extra production here. Of course, the problem for us as a company is that if we produce only the backer copies, and then no more, our company has no stock to sell, and we, sooner or later, enter serious financial trouble! To avoid this fate, we are launching Cthulhu Wars Onslaught Two

The idea is to earn enough money from new backers to be able to produce those extra copies for sales in stores. But we also are excited to be producing new material to thrill our original backers. Here’s what we have coming:

1)  Ramsey Campbell’s horrific creations (he gave us permission!)

2)  New monsters

3)  New great old ones

4)  A new map expansion (The Library of Celaeno)

5)  A new first player marker

6)  AND a new playable faction expansion(1).

The new stuff will be available as one single comparatively inexpensive pledge to make things easy for those who desire … completion. And of course all of the other add-ons will be available at less than MSRP for those who didn’t get them the first time around.

We are currently planning to launch Cthulhu Wars Onslaught Two in October, so many of you should have already gotten your pledges! More of you will be getting them during the new campaign.

Cultists of Cthulhu

I was recently at NecronomiCon in Providence and had a chance to look over a project, currently on kickstarter, named Cultists of Cthulhu. It is kinda sorta a cross between Elder Sign and Betrayal at House on the Hill (both games I enjoy), but it is also its own beast. You may be interested in checking it out here.

      Would love an estimate on how much the De Vermiis Mysteriis package will be for wave 2. So I can start planning my finances/selling stuff on eBay.

    2. Jamie Bergman on

      @ Jamie B.: I was really confused for a minute as I didn't remember writing the below. LOL

    3. Jamie B. on

      I will be backing this whether or not the second wave has arrived before the KS campaign ends. I was vocal, adamant, and strident in begging for Ramsey Campbell's creations in the original campaign and I'd be a tool not to.

      @Dave - Thank you!

      Thank you very much for this additional expensive effort. If you asked for the VAT money difference I'd understand and pay because I deeply trust you. I'm excited we'll soon have all the cool expansions!

      I am proud to be a backer!

      @Jamie: It plays 3-5 like all standard maps.

      Okay, my 13 year old son hit me with a question that I don't know the answer to:

      How many players will be able to play on the Yuggoth Map?

      @Arthur
      I really hope we get our personal tracking numbers this time. Was scary not knowing the progress of my delivery (in Malaysia) for the core game due to never receiving a tracking number, and reading so many cases of people losing their deliveries and whatnot on the comments here!
      Was a huge relief when it arrived suddenly with no damages whatsoever, but would prefer knowing progress of delivery, less stress!

      Hopefully you'll manage a better shipping price for asia pacific area in next campaign.

      +1 Admiration for you guys covering the VAT! I'd hit the tip jar. Or at least pledge more.

      I've been shirking on my gaming duties and haven't had a chance to get all of my gaming buddies a shot at the Cthulhu Wars base game. I'm determined to make some new backers out of them in October and I'll be hitting up the tip jar for sure.

      Petersen Games Tip Jar pledge level.

      You never stop amazing me withbyou generosity to backers.

      I had concerns about cost and exchange. Worries about shipping and the wife.

      Dam it all, I will be in 110% of your price.
      You have been so spectacular I can do no less.

      From the top of my head you have covered extra shipping, completed the collectors set with unsolicited custom bases, increased the map size, increased the dice count, added 5 cultists, 9 Goos, portals...now you eat 50k... MADNESS!

      Actually we should make that a thing. Everyone who appreciates what they just did, and how much trouble that stuff is to actually jig up, should show it with an extra $10 in Onslaught 2. I know you've saved me personally at least $150 or so in extra VAT/fees that I was actually prepared to pay.

      @Arthur
      I've never before received a package like the one I received the core game in (Norway here), and I've received a whole lot of packages. It had a big sticker on the outside saying VAT paid and other stuff, and I didn't pay a dime to pick it up. So huge props for doing this, I might just add $10 to my pledge in Onslaught 2 for being awesome ;)

    19. Matthew Churchill on

      Will Onslaught Two be made in China? I've watched the news about China's economic crash and various industrial accidents with growing concern. Is China a safe place, both financially and practically, to manufacture Onslaught Two?

    20. C on

      Thanks for pushing OS2 to October. The Others and Battle System will have KS in September and my wallet's already hurting! (: This will give us an opportunity to receive the first KS goodies before pledging for the next one.

    21. Batei on

      Damn! The GOO's conspire yet again to hamper the financial energies of the developer. I hope Onslaught rakes in the cash so PG can keep on busting out games. :)

    22. Arthur Petersen Collaborator on

      @Bruno:
      we are trying to pay for your VAT as well. Brazil is trickier, but we will do all we can to cover your costs for you. We don't want anyone to pay for ANYTHING else at this point, relating to THIS kickstarter. Rather, we want you to back our next KS ;) and be VERY satisfied with this one.

      @zoroaster
      thank you very much. That means a LOT to me.

      @urhixidur
      cool user name.
      the 8th faction will have them in their box (same for their High Priest(s)). Oops...did I give away that they may have more than one high priest!...

    23. Urhixidur on

      I notice there are 7 brain cylinder factions on the sheet shown. Where will the Onslaught 2 eighth faction gets its brain cylinder tokens from?

      @Arthur: thank you for the estimate on expected arrival. While I know you and I and everyone else wanted it sooner, it is clear to me you have done your best to get everything to us as fast as you found.

    26. Bruno Follmann on

      Sorry to hear about the European situation.
      I hope that you still try to declare a lower value (maybe just manufacturing costs). That may help us cultists from Brazil (our customs are at over 60% here, and the dollar is much more expensive this time around). The core game arrived declared as its full retail price, and the taxes were paid in tears.

      Please bring on Wave 2. Your team's creativity, honesty, and love of the game made me a cultist for life. Thank you!

    28. Arthur Petersen Collaborator on

      @Tabris
      Yes, because the printing is nearly done and collation is happening for certain things. Shipping is expected to be about 4-6 weeks, assuming no customs issues. I am sure that some folks will likely not actually see it until November. But I am expecting most to get it during October.

    29. Invictus

      It's awesome that you're offering the KS1 expansions in KS2! Now that I've played the game and held the minis in my hand, I'm completely sold and of course want all of the expansions! I just have to figure out where to get the money for it!

    30. Missing avatar

      Tabris on

      Arthur, I'm a little confused with how the expansions are going to be printed, collated, boxed, and then shipped by boat and still have time to get to the US/EU by the end of October. That gives a maximum of about 2 months for this all to happen. Is that really realistic?

    31. Arthur Petersen Collaborator on

      Actually, VAT hasn't actually gone up - it's the same amount as before (around 19% of price paid). But, a ruling came down that unequivocally stated that you cannot hide physical rewards of Kickstarters as anything other than a product sold. Man, I hate the EU bureaucracy sometimes.

      In the past you could mark things as "samples" or use the manufacturing price when paying VAT, or other things. Or...you could risk being audited. We don't want to take that chance. Plus, as always, Sandy wants to be honest in his dealings with his fellow man (and woman).

    32. Zymm315 on

      Maaaaan that sucks to hear about VAT going up (says a lot about a company when they take it upon themselves to make sure their customers are taken care of out of pocket!) ...that has really gotta hurt. Hopefully EVERY single one of these devoted Cultists will be backing Onslaught 2 with as much, if not more religious fervor than the first Kickstarter. You have my pledge and my sanity! Ia! Ia! Well done! /i\(;;*;;)/i\

      The Captain on

      I too hope that those in the EU realize how incredibly generous it is for you guys to eat the VAT. I agree with zorper that I probably would not have done that either. Technically all the KS customers in Europe have been lucky with companies finding creative ways to "disguise" their shipments from the USA to avoid taxes. It's similar to what happens here with state Use taxes which people are supposed to voluntarily pay for purchases across state lines where there was no Sales tax charged.

    34. Jeffrey Williams

      So generous! I'll definitely pay it forward, and I'm looking forward to the next campaign.

      This news of Onslaught Two fills me with eldritch horror... I mean excitement! I didn't get absolutley everything I wanted from the first KS just because of budget reasons, but if this is a chance to pick up some more extras, I'm all for it!

      zorper on

      Sucks about the VAT. I commend your decision to eat the $50K. I doubt most people understand exactly what you did there. I don't think I would have gone that far for my backers.

    37. Jamie Dobson on

      Dang nabbit Sandy, is there no end to amount of wallet the Old Ones are prepared to eat!! Backed!!

      Well done on the production, I truly can't wait to get a hold of this stuff :-)

      Bring on wave 2!!
