The Great Old One Update

All,

We have some big news. Many of you may be aware that we are planning on launching our next Kickstarter soon – next Monday, July 17th.

Click here to see a preview of Onslaught 3!

While the new Kickstarter campaign will not be live until Monday, July 17th, we are publishing this link to the Kickstarter project preview page for you. Please feel free to share with friends and any others!

Normally the preview page is for friends and collaborators of project creators to help review and identify areas of improvement. However, we wanted everyone to get a chance to see it in advance.

Remember to click the "Notify Me on Launch" Button at the top!

Free credit for those on CW: Onslaught Two!

We want to offer you a thank you for your patience and long-suffering through the recent (and for some, still ongoing) shipping adventure for THIS campaign of CW: Onslaught Two. While much of it was due to things beyond our control - such as the month long US customs debacle or our factory misallocating various certain SKUs in the wrong containers for shipping – we are nevertheless the ones who must take responsibility.

We deliberated a long time over the best way to make this up to you, and finally settled on a simple fix that we believe you will love:

After the CW O3 KS is over, when the pledge manager opens, we will import all your emails from THIS Kickstarter (Onslaught Two). Then, we will apply a free credit to that email that you can use towards any add-on or even your shipping cost. (You can’t really use it on your pledge level since that will already be charged via Kickstarter itself).

Future Shipping Prices

We understand that there was also a lot of frustration over the shipping prices last year. As it turns out, we actually still undershot the full cost (though not by much) of shipping CW O2. Some of this was due to the re-shipment of products that is ongoing (such as sending freight to Australia from Europe and US). But even when you painstakingly account for all types of shipping costs the sheer complexity and size of shipping CW O2 made us undercount our final bills.

That said, we understand that it is never fun to pay high shipping prices on a Kickstarter, even when getting many large and heavy boxes. As a result, we are modifying how we account for and charge shipping. We haven’t fully settled on the prices yet, but you should expect shipping prices in CW O3 that are lower than you might otherwise anticipate based on CW O2.

As usual, for most countries we will cover all VAT and related expenses so you only make 1 payment to us and then it will be shipped to your door without you having to pay anything else at that time.

I hope you will join us in this next effort!

Yours in Madness,

Sandy, Ian, Arthur, and the entire Petersen Games Team!

Not sure if I'll back this one as I have just received Onslaught Two and am still waiting for the misdirected items that went to the US instead of Australia.

Would have liked a bit more of a break between the fulfillment of one campaign and commencement of the next.

That said, I am a weak, weak man.

The rule book we just received will not be obsolete until some time next year and even then the only differences will be additions, not actual changes. Hell you won't even need it if you're not playing Shaggai or Ancients. Most big games add new rules every few months. It doesn't take a lot of brain power to figure that a successful game will likely have more expansions produced, which means additions to rules or that a book can only contain the rules that are available at the time it goes to print. Bloody hell people it's not like the game is being entirely rewritten into a second edition, making what we have useless... although that is how you're making it sound.

Just let me add in here that buying from your website adds on huge shipping costs to the UK unfortunately - which has always prohibited this choice in the past. If however I could bolt on a retail order to OS3 I would be over the moon.

I understand that you cannot afford to re-cast all of the older models for this KS. As someone who missed OS1 and was not able to get all of OS2 - there are definitely some things I really want which are not covered.

ALL of the original independent GOO packs (1-4) as well as independent monsters.
The more robust card Doom Track and Player Boards.

I am pleased with the Omega rule book addition, and the add on option of the 6-8 player Earth board - I am after these!

Would it be possible - if items aren't available on the KS page - if stocks allow still - to order them directly through Peterson Games and get them delivered with the rest of the KS. Effectively adding a retail order on top?

Love the new faction. Really love the new acolytes but I must agree with others about losing the guns. Replace the Cthulhu one with a gaff hook. As for windwalker make the hood deeper so his face isn't visible at all and replace the gun with a barbed harpoon.

    21. Iain Reid on July 11, 2017

New cultists look cool. Are the extra Map expansions not available this campaign (Dreamlands, Library etc)? I was hoping to pick up a couple of them. Ditto for the Plastic Gates.

Should all non-exclusive content from previous campaigns not be available?

    22. Spiog on July 10, 2017

      Dear Sandy and Crew.
      Just a few thoughts:
Ancients Acolyte ??? really not getting this one.
Ancients Re-Animated I'm sorry but it looks like something GW would put out.
Black Goat Acolyte, loose the chains
Cthulhu Acolyte, loose the beard make the mouth broader and loose the gun
Opener Acolyte, Make it more degenerate farmer looking I think
Wind Walker Acolyte, more Eskimo like and loose the gun
Guns I think give the impression that these cultists stand a chance if ever so remotely slim of actually doing some damage.
Just my thoughts but can't wait for the 17th.

Sorry to say, I'm gonna pass on this one Sandy. With having spent 1.5K, I cannot justify it so soon on the heels of the last one. It looks 'watered down' and seems like someone not steeped in the Mythos created the artwork . Just not feelin' the sculpts. Taking a much needed break from backing. Great game though and wish you the best! Sad we won't be seeing you this August in Providence. I'll have my painted version there. Good luck with O3!!

    28. Glaucio Santos dos Reis on July 10, 2017

Cool that you are covering VAT for "most" countries. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the tax refund that you, Arthur, promised me over a year ago.

@Drew: Just Yellow Sign, and it's pretty natural looking (alluring dancer, rather than... booty shake McGee). Black Goat and Ancients aren't depicted as sexy, I suppose Opener is debatable. Concept art certainly isn't, and the model isn't really, but the pose emphasizes the bust a bit; though might just be the angle. Maybe 50/50.

Any chance of a add-ons only pledge? I not sure my shelves can handle any more Cthulhu Wars but I need the new Omega Rule book (which i didn't add last time because i mistakenly thought it was included in my pledge) and maybe on of the original expansions.

I went all in for Onslaught 2, so it looks like a $199 Yothan Pledge then $60 for 200 faction-specific-colored battle dice and $30 for colored base rings should cover it.

    45. Missing avatar

      Nameless on July 10, 2017

@DropDeadCriminal: Agreed. I intend on getting all of the faction dice, so Yothan will give me a set of dice, then I'd add on all the dice for $60, which would give me 20 extra of one of the sets... probably silver if this isn't changed.

I'd rather see Yothan bumped up to include all the faction battle dice, or none of the faction dice, and instead come with a non-faction-specific set.

Question. The $199 level says all new products, but in the description it reads 20 dice in 1 color, while in the add-ons it says there is an option for 200 dice in 10 colors. Either the level description should be updated or the level content should be updated.

    48. William H. Nelson on July 10, 2017

Is there a pledge that has only the things that a former backer will need? I liked that pledge during onslaught 2.

    49. Arthur Petersen Collaborator on July 10, 2017

      @Scott
Just getting ALL the new stuff is basically $199 (the Yothan pledge).
However, just the new GAMEPLAY (non cosmetic) stuff, it is the Wamp pledge for $149.
