About this project
***FULLY FUNDED! STRETCH GOAL & ADD-ON DETAILS BELOW!***
In 2007 I set up Time Bomb Comics, a small indie comics publisher that has since become one of the mainstays of the British comics community. Now, to celebrate ten years of Time Bomb Comics I'm releasing a very special graphic novel that looks to the future by acknowledging the past...
Time – an infinite chronal tapestry with endless interwoven strands that occasionally fray, work loose, or tear completely.
Rips in time.
When that happens the tear could spread, rippling outwards and causing devastating anomalies.
Worse, it could bring about the Epochalypse.
So the Chronoverse has to be repaired – Fast.
And that can only be done by the Ragamuffins - Gorgeous George, Ruby Redd, Pussywillow and Lord Kevin - a group of bizarre Paradoxters tasked with the care and repair of universal time.
Ragamuffins Redux - A full colour 52 page graphic novel, written by Steve Tanner, artwork by Mike Bunt & Ben Lopez and lettering by Bolt-01.
But there's a bit more to Ragamuffins Redux than that. You see, Ragamuffins first appeared as a black and white one-shot in 2007, and was the first title released by Time Bomb Comics. Originally featuring artwork by Andy Dodd (who also helped design the look of the original characters) it started me on a creative road that I'm still enjoying travelling on a decade later.
I still love the characters and the concept, but really that first outing was, in retrospect, a bit of a mess. It was a much longer tale crammed into 20 pages, compressed so much the story suffered, and overall it was hastily put together to meet a print deadline. Even worse it was ham-fistedly self lettered. Using the notorious font Comic Sans. Yes, really.
Over the years, and with the benefit of hindsight, I've always wished I could revisit the concept of the Ragamuffins and do it justice. So now, to mark the 10 year anniversary of Time Bomb Comics, that's exactly what I've decided to do. The result is Ragamuffins Redux.
I've gone back and reworked the original storyline, expanding it to a length that finally gives it the space and pacing it deserves, and seizing the opportunity to add a few little plot wrinkles here and there. You can see from the page samples here that the new art team of Mike Bunt and Ben Lopez have provided some terrific full colour artwork for the book, and Bolt-01 is lettering to his usual high standard.
As with my previous three Kickstarters, this is a pre-order rather than an all-or nothing campaign, designed to properly reward backers for supporting the book before it's officially launched on 14th October later this year at the Nottingham Comic Con (which will be 10 years to the day since I first pitched up with Time Bomb Comics on 14th October 2007 at the second Birmingham International Comic Show, fact fans!).
Those of you who may be more familiar with my stories in the Flintlock series will find Ragamuffins Redux a very different beast - the story of the Paradoxters is a mind-bending tale of time travel with a bizarre team of anti-heroes. Think Sapphire and Steel but with the weirdness dial turned up to eleven. However even though it's far removed from the Flintlock timeline, I think you'll find the timelines of the Ragamuffins equally entertaining.
My goal is intentionally low for a book in this format - that's because I'm hoping that we can unlock some exclusive stretch goals for backers only before the campaign ends. By supporting this book on Kickstarter you'll be getting the printed edition at a lower price than anywhere else, guaranteed. The digital edition will also not be offered anywhere else for at least three months after the campaign ends. Postage is always tricky, but for this campaign postage is FREE to UK backers at any reward tier, and is as low as I could make it for international backers.
There's a range of reward tiers that are available, and our pre-order campaign is structured so that if we do unlock the planned stretch goals then everyone will be getting something extra, regardless at which level they supported at.
Naturally there's some higher pledge rewards for those that want a little bit more, including prints, original art, and some very limited rewards that include an opportunity to grab one of the last remaining copies of the very first Ragamuffins one-shot. I uncovered these whilst searching for the original typewritten scripts, and as they are the first ever Time Bomb Comic that means a genuine piece of comics history could be yours!
Ragamuffins Redux really bookends my first ten years with Time Bomb, and acts as a celebration of the wonderful decade I've had creating comics. Of course, it also begins the next decade which is also something to celebrate I think!
I hope you'll consider supporting Ragamuffins Redux and celebrating with me.
Thanks for reading.
I'm delighted to be able to now share the stretch goals here now that the pre-order target for Ragamuffins Redux has been reached.
£900 - UNLOCKED! ART PRINT BY CAROLINE PARKINSON!
Should we reach £900 in pledges this brilliant psychedelic artwork by Caroline Parkinson will be included as an extra print for all backers at the £15 and above reward tiers!
£1000 - LOCKED! THE BOOK GETS BIGGER!
This is a big one - should we achieve £1000 of funding then an extra section will be added to the book that will be included in all digital and print editions. The Secret History of the Ragamuffins will detail the creation of the book and the concept featuring development sketches, unseen artwork, original script extracts and more!
Risks and challenges
This will be my fourth Kickstarter, and my previous three were all successfully delivered. With all artwork on Ragamuffins Redux close to completion, ready for the mid-October official launch at Nottingham Comic Con, no delays are expected. I'll also be looking to get all rewards sent out to backers during October so you can celebrate our ten years with us!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
