Hi, I'm Steve Tanner and I'd like to welcome to the pre-order campaign for Flintlock Book Two - the unique ongoing anthology series set entirely in the 18th Century.
Flintlock is a regular comics anthology series with a difference - each issue tells stories featuring a unique range of characters in an Eighteenth Century shared historical timeline.
The Eighteenth Century (1701 to 1800) encompassed some of the most tumultuous changes in world history involving some of the richest personalities - and this is one of the inspirations for the stories and characters that feature in Flintlock.
Book One launched in April this year following a successful pre-order Kickstarter, and I'm hoping Book Two will be equally well received. This campaign is for the second 48 page book in the series that features the further adventures of some key characters in the Flintlock universe!
I'm delighted that the cover to Book Two is painted by British comics legend Ian Kennedy. A mainstay of the weekly adventure comics that used to be found on the shelves of every newsagent across the country, Ian's work is instantly recognisable to generations of British comics fans - and you can get an oversized print of the cover artwork, signed and numbered by Ian himself, as a very special limited reward tier!
Those of you unfamiliar with Ian's work can find out more about him here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Kennedy_(comics)
Our flagship character is Lady Flintlock, a female highwayman who, through robbing the coaches that pass through the small, quiet village where she resides, is fast becoming public enemy number one! South Carolina artist Anthony Summey is drawing another fantastic 24 page story that continues the story began in Book One.
Our second story features the return of Shanti the Pirate Queen, a South Asian cut-throat who sails the Indian Ocean with her pirate crew. The ruthless and beautiful Shanti's first adventure caused a bit of a stir - she's a lot more than just a female Captain Jack! Italian artist Lorenzo Nicoletta has again provided the art.
Finally our third story heralds the return of The Clockwork Cavalier - the mysterious automaton who has been recruited by the Bow Street Runners (historically, the world's first organised police force) to fight crime in 18th Century London. Artist Ed Machiavello returns for another complete story of Flintlock's mechanical marvel!
All stories in Flintlock Book Two are lettered by Bolt-01 who has also designed the Flintlock logos and completes our creative team. You'll notice the artwork is black and white - this is very much intentional. The British weekly comics of the sixties and seventies, many of which featured historical adventure stories with terrific black and white artwork, is one of the inspirations for Flintlock!
“[Flintlock Book One] is one fine looking book, and offers its readers a polished, professional, immensely entertaining read from cover to cover.” – Pipedream Comics
This Kickstarter is not an all-or-nothing approach to publishing Flintlock; instead I'm using it to see how I can reach beyond the traditional distribution networks and properly reward everyone who pledges at the same time. This worked really well for the Book One campaign with the rewards being sent all over the world, so I'm crossing my personal flintlock's that I can do the same again.
How will I try to do that? Firstly, the price of Book Two (both print and digital) is going to be cheaper when ordered through this Kickstarter than it will be if ordered online anywhere else. With free or minimum postage to UK and BFPO addresses and set postage costs for international backers, hopefully you agree that the fixed prices of £4 digital and £8 printed (which includes the £4 digital edition as well) is a good deal for a book like this. Secondly, I'm not looking for 100s of backers. I'm just aiming for 60 print copies at £8 each to be sold through Kickstarter (which is roughly how I arrived at the low £500 target). With 60 copies (or the financial target) reached I'll then start introducing some stretch goals. As with the target, the goals will be realistic, achievable and hopefully desirable!
There are a couple of higher pledges available – you can increase your pledge to get the Ian Kennedy limited edition print of the cover artwork or a copy of the 96 page Bomb Scares anthology that also features a highwayman tale drawn by the talented Mr Summey. You can also pledge higher to receive some original artwork - including pages from the book itself. We've also got a couple of very special "top tier" reward pledges – but these are limited and designed to give you something extra special should you want it.
So I'm excited about potentially being able to really give you, as a Flintlock backer, a great comics anthology at a great price without too much of a wait. Hopefully if you backed Book One you'll consider coming back for Book Two, but if you're new to Flintlock I hope the story teasers posted here are enough to whet your appetite and get a taste of how much a quality piece of work the Flintlock anthology is. If you did miss the first Kickstarter earlier this year fear not - as part of this campaign you can get Flintlock Book One as a combo pledge or an add-on to bring you the full Flintlock story!
Thanks for reading and I hope you consider backing.

Risks and challenges
All of the artwork for Flintlock Book Two is currently either in-house or well underway. Time Bomb Comics has a solid reputation of delivering quality books on time so no delays are expected. Regardless of the outcome of this campaign the book will be published by January 2017 - however this campaign offers prices and extras that will only be available to Kickstarter backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
