About this project
Greetings, Gelflings. It is my intention to use this Kickstarter campaign to fund the printing of limited edition (25) run of my autobiographical, OD&D/AD&D- inspired Map of Western Refractoria. Five of these maps will be given to the five donors who each give $250. The rest will be sold via my website.
A brief list of other donor gifts:
$10 DONATION (unlimited, above) will get you a slick 8.5" x 6" black and white postcard of a Nest Burglar (front) and Mondegreene (back) inscribed with a hand-written note of appreciation.
$25 DONATION (unlimited, above) will get you a 8" x 10, 4-color giclee archival print of Phacops Attaboise.
$100 DONATION I will create a small (5" x 7") dungeon map for you--black ink on archival watercolor paper--using three names you suggest (The Chasm of Hopelessness, the Tunnels of Larry, etc.) See photo above for the style in which these maps will be created. To be delivered via USPS.
$250 DONATION (limit 25) will get you a small (5" x 7"), highly-detailed hand-drawn map which I will customize specifically for you. I will use pen and ink (with perhaps an ink wash) and these maps will be created in the style of the Refractorian Map I am seeking to get printed. (See example above.) You submit three names (ex: The Choking Forest, the Plain of Sad Malonda, whatever) and three geographical features (ex: ocean, island, city, mountain, whatever.) This will be created entirely by hand by ME in my effete NYC studio.
$500 DONATION (limit 5) will get you one giclee, archival quality (30" x 40") signed, limited-edition (1-5 of 25) print of the Map of Western Refractoria (see top of this entry for the image.)
$2000 DONATION (limit 2) will get you one of two framed, original watercolor drawings, The Tintinnabulist (left) or Distemper Chamber (right). Both of the drawings are approximately 24" x 36", framed under UV-resistant plexiglass.
So that's about it. Thanks for your interest. Please write me if you have any questions or concerns.
Risks and challenges
As I see it, the risks and challenges are minimal and easily surmountable.
I have researched digital reproduction (aka scanning (yes, that's a technical term)) of the maps and feel as I've found an affordable, high-quality option that will create an immaculate files (both for the larger Refractorian map and the smaller Phacops drawing) from which to print. I have found an equally affordable, high-quality digital printshop here in Brooklyn that will provide the immaculate prints of the aforementioned immaculate files.
I would say the biggest challenges which would the printing, coordination, creation, and delivery of all of the donor gifts--the postcards, the smaller prints, the made-by-me drawings, the five prints of Refractoria and (if someone donates sufficient moolah) the two framed original drawings. I have set the deadline for this project for May 2013 so that, when it is funded, I will have ample time to print and deliver all that I have promised.
Should other unforeseen challenges arise, I will immediately update everyone. It is my intention to be as transparent as possible and to get your goods to you as quickly as possible. And, of course, I will always be available to answer any questions you might have.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
