Über dieses Projekt
NOTE: By 'PC' we mean Windows AND Mac.
ALL FOOTAGE SHOWN IN THE VIDEO IS WITHIN THE GAME'S ENGINE.
We do hope to improve the quality and graphics as that is what we are working on now.
We at DYC Studio have been building this game for almost a year now. It is entering a stage where everything works, and now we must work on the graphical quality, small details and story-line. We plan to release some time in: 2015
So what will it really look like?
The final game should look very similar to what was shown in the video, but with more detailed meshes and atmospheric effects that will push the next-gen hardware to its limits.
So with the help of a real-time radiosity algorithm or the Lightsprint SDK, we can achieve our goal of how it should look. Here is some concept art to get you all jumping:
What's the game about?
Basically, this is a first person role playing game with real-time combat (however we might add a third person view). What makes it unique is the gigantic randomly generating world and ability to sculpt the terrain and place items with boundless freedom. It will allow you to be as creative as you want.
Every player will experience a different world each time they start a new game.
The game is all about survival, being creative and whatever else you want. It is so immersive that you can create a persona for your character, or be yourself. Features such as different abilities to learn and master, non-hostile characters to meet, things to do, and ways to do them will all come together to define your character.
Maybe you want to be an explorer who tries to stay hidden at all costs, you can invest in a Locator and some sneaking skill. If you want to be a titan hunter, you can learn the skills and collect the equipment you'll need through other side missions. The possibilities are endless. Oh yes, I did say Titan Hunting, we're still working on that so we might showcase the mechanics in our next trailer.
You enter the world of Hyperion as a miner, but you can progress into so much more. Surviving on the planet will need you to learn new skills all the time. Your main goal is to find a way back home, but that is easier said than done, the game will take you on a long but amazing journey to reaching this goal.
The storyline?
On your way to mine from a local planet, you are swallowed by a black-hole and emerge in an unknown galaxy, which is far away from home. You are spitted out of the void of the black hole not far from a strange planet which looks to be shrouded in a darkness you want to avoid. You request permission to land via your comms but there is no answer. With a sudden bang your whole vessel rocks and spins from a collision with a projectile. This projectile was fired purposely from the planet, there is no doubt. The vessel manages to succumb to the gravitational pull of the planet and you are forced to enter the atmosphere with no control of your ship. As you fall into unconsciousness from the unbearable experience you notice some structures peering out from the clouds you are about to tear through. On awakening you feel dizzy from the clean pure air you breath which is a dream-like experience for somebody who spends most of their time in a space suit. In shock you lift yourself to gaze upon a spectacular sunset over a desert beyond your burning vessel. You say to yourself "Well, let another adventure begin."
(This narrative is NOT final and only gives tease of what the main storyline will be like.)
Like most RPGs there is a main storyline and a range of side missions you can do, however, we have kept repitition minimal and every single mission will have a beautifully crafted story that links to the main storyline.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack will be an exclusively produced set of electronic 80's style synth wave music. It is going to be a big part of the project and we have some exciting collaborations with many great musicians set up for it. The music itself should be enough to blow your minds.
Why do we need a Kickstarter?
Although we have figured out most of the main mechanics, there's still ALOT that we want to add.
To achieve the most incredible graphics possible, we will need a real-time radiosity algorithm. Perhaps a license for the Lightsprint SDK will do the job.
Things like characters and wild-life animation need a Motion Capture Device plus software for it.
Then we have to pay actors and voice actors.
Our terrain generates procedurally, but needs more work. We'll have a more advanced procedural terrain which works flawlessly with the help of additional programmers.
The more we add, the more help we'll need. So the budget is minimal for now, more funding than our set price will mean more features (like there wasn't enough already).
If you think you can contribute in any way, let us know!
What's next?
We are currently making a short film/trailer called Hyperion: Traveller's Guide, which will tell you all you must know about the game's incredible universe. Stay tuned to see it right here soon.
Risiken und Herausforderungen
Anything can happen when it comes to a studio as creative as ours. One of us might get kidnapped by the Mafia and we'd have to delay the release while we go and save them, but that's highly unlikely.
On a more serious note, we might run into licensing issues or problems with age restrictions, commercial distribution, etc. We have qualified lawyers on our team who are currently researching every aspect of releasing a game like this successfully.
If anything does set us back, we WILL release the game eventually. The worst case's would only delay us and if it comes to that, we would kindly ask for your patience and keep you updated as much as we possibly can.
