While $15,000 is our Kickstarter goal, $40,000 is what we can make this movie for. If we don't raise it on Kickstarter, we will work to find investors post-campaign. Any and all funds donated will go directly to making this movie happen!
THE ELEVATOR PITCH
I don't know about you but I'm tired of seeing older characters in movies and television as asexual babushkas and zany spinsters. PLAN B (working title) is an in-depth character study of an older woman facing and conquering the impossible: death.
Too often are seniors treated insubstantially as characters. Older people have a nuanced understanding of history, along with dignity, power and magnetism. This movie is all about presenting these (often under utilized) older characters in a heroic light and giving them the time on-screen they deserve.
BREAD AND BUTTER
BREAD AND BUTTER, my first feature, was released on VOD by The Orchard on September 1, 2015. The film has been received very favorably. HelloGiggles.com called it "an absolute must-watch for women everywhere" and Bustle.com said that it is the "rare film that tackles female sexuality head on."
After world premiering at the Woodstock Film Festival, we had an unusual four screenings at the prestigious Cleveland International Film Festival (due to overwhelming ticket sales) and sold out most of our other festival screenings. We won Best Feature at Big Apple Film Festival, Best Director and Best Actress at Naperville Film Festival, Best Comedy at SENE, and Best of the Fest at Minneapolis St Paul International Film Festival. We were the VIP Screening at Phoenix Film Festival and won Best Romantic Comedy (Platinum) at WorldFest Houston.
I could not be more proud of all of our work on BREAD AND BUTTER. We Kickstarted that film in 2012. Here's a link to that campaign:
We're proud to say that we constantly communicated with all of our very kind Kickstarter backers on the BREAD AND BUTTER campaign. We followed up often to make sure everyone was happy. We don't take lightly the fact that you may have chosen to support Bread and Butter and may choose to support our new film. This movie will only be made due to the kindness and generosity of friends (new and old) and family.
WOMEN IN FILM
We are also extremely proud to have worked with a female majority crew on BREAD AND BUTTER and only want to continue that tradition on this film. B&B was comprised of almost entirely female department heads.
This film's purpose is to celebrate and depict the strength and power of all women - of all ages. We are prioritizing women in front of and behind the camera.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME - LIZ MANASHIL
When I was 16 I realized I wanted to be a filmmaker. It took a long long time to make my first feature, and only through Kickstarter were we able to accomplish everything.
I am a writer/director. I also (due to budget concerns!) will cast all my projects and help produce them. I spent four years as a film critic on a PBS show called "Just Seen It" and currently work in distribution.

Risks and challenges
WHAT WE'VE LEARNED SINCE THE LAST FILM
Our first film, Bread and Butter, starred 8 lead characters with tons of background performers. It had dozens of locations, a musical number, and a very tough shooting schedule.
Our new film will have four characters total. One location. It will be shot in my parents' house in Marin County, CA.
We've written the script around simplifying variables as much as possible while still telling a story we're incredibly passionate about.
In addition to this, thanks to our experience with our first feature, we've been around the block. We know how to traverse post production, the festival circuit, and distribution.
Most feature films are made for millions of dollars. Donating to our Kickstarter campaign will help promote the idea that all films don't need to be made for millions of dollars, and that the most important thing a movie needs is a story with a message.
We're currently asking for $15,000 for our Kickstarter campaign but our stretch goal is $40,000. All the money goes to cast and crew who will work hard to make the best movie we can. We will also be hiring local crew to supplement the Los Angeles department heads we can bring up to Northern California. Kickstarter funds will be going to equipment, cast, crew, and transporting cast and crew to Marin in the most efficient way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
