About this project
Being a dad doesn't mean you have to be a square. No one proves that more than the writers in Daddy Cool, an anthology of fathers writing for all ages.
About The Book
Edited by Ben Tanzer, the ultimate "daddy cool" writer, and author of You Can Make Him Like You and My Father's House (not to mention numerous others), Daddy Cool is unlike any other anthology we've seen in the small press arena or otherwise: fathers (and indie writers) writing for and about kids. There's no age restriction here, you will see work spanning from middle grade to YA, and even writing on parenting itself. All this compiled into one great book, providing a unique experience that can be shared with the whole family..
J.A. Tyler, Robert Duffer, Pete Anderson, bl pawelek, Seth Berg, Matthew Salesses, Mark Brand, Nik Korpon, Nathan Holic, Caleb Ross, Corey Mesler, CL Bledsoe, John Longstocking, Jason Fisk, Robert Arellano, Barry Graham, Chad Redden, Dave Housley, Dan Coxon, Jesse Jordan, Fred Sasaki, Patrick Wensink, James Claffey, Brian Carr, Ryan W. With more to be announced!
Artistically Declined Press has been around for just four years, but has published a rich range of writing since its inception, including the critically acclaimed debut story collections of Ryan W. Bradley and Roxane Gay, the debut poetry collections of Rose Hunter, Kat Dixon, and bl pawelek, as well as Ben Tanzer's novel, You Can Make Him Like You and a re-issue of his debut novel, Lucky Man, as well as Ken Sparling's Hush Up and Listen Stinky Poo Butt.
And ADP is always moving boldly into the future, with an imprint devoted to collaborative poetry collections, and the recently announced Amdahl Library, which will, over a seven year period, finally bring the unpublished works of Gary Amdahl to readers.
With Daddy Cool, ADP is once again forging the way by publishing one of literature's most unique anthology experiences.
With this Kickstarter ADP saw the opportunity to create some awesome merchandise to go with Daddy Cool. You can see all the options to the right, but they include a hilarious companion book, I Love You Much Like Ice Cream, a collection of aphorisms and drawings by Lincoln Bradley, the 4 year old son of writer/publisher, Ryan W. Bradley, a red tshirt and a kelly green zip-up hoodie featuring the iconic hipster glasses from the Daddy Cool cover, and more! There's even a once in a lifetime chance to get a LIFETIME subscription to all ADP books.
*The Tshirts, Hoodies, and Posters are all EXCLUSIVE to the Kickstarter campaign.
**Tshirts are available in women's cut and children's sizes. Hoodies are unisex and adult sizes only. All are printed on American Apparel products.
***For reward levels featuring the hoodie and the tshirt you will have the option to get each one in a different size should you want to gift one (or both).
****The lifetime subscriptions will start with books published in 2013, including a copy of our January release, The Intimidator Still Lives In Our Hearts by Gary Amdahl.
No matter the amount of the contribution we are grateful to every single one of our potential supporters and as such we will be thanking EVERY donor in the book!
We are attempting to raise $1,500 to cover the production and printing costs of Daddy Cool. We want to give this book every bit of love and heart its writers put into it, and by helping us raise the money to produce it you will be allowing us do just that. Small presses are passion projects and we've got heaps of passion, we hope you do, too. If we manage to raise more than our goal any additional funds will go into ADP's future endeavors, effectively making it easier for us to keep bringing awesome books to our amazing fans/readers.
The most expensive aspects of publishing this book will be the printing costs and the costs for the books to be shipped to us from our printer. We don't yet know the exact page count of the book, so we can only estimate the cost breakdown. We are expecting it to be one of our largest books in terms of page count, though. Our estimated breakdown of expenses is as follows:
Setup costs: 10% (roughly $100)
Printing costs: 65% (roughly $1150)
Shipping costs (from printer to ADP): 25% (roughly $250)
Parents and non-parents alike will love the writing in Daddy Cool for its fresh attitude and immense heart. Being a parent can feel (and seem to outsiders) incredibly uncool at times, but the writers in Daddy Cool are reclaiming cool and you can, too!
Risks and challenges
Every project has risks, as a publisher we've certainly encountered a few. The great thing about Daddy Cool is that we've been assembling the project for nearly a year and have all the work we need to publish this fantastic book, which is why we knew now was the time to undertake a Kickstarter. We've got the meat of the project, we just need a little help bringing this awesome book to readers. The only potential challenge will be printing delays, but in four years we've only ever pushed back one release date, and we will always be forthcoming with our supporters and work to minimize the impact of any hiccups on their receipt of our product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
