About

Norge Ice9 pre-production stage
Norge Ice9 pre-production stage

SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) is the most advanced 3D printing technology available, and thereby one of the most expensive, used by the “big players” in 3D/design/automotive industry.

Project timeline

Why are we offering only the Ice1 and not Ice9 as a reward?

The kickstarter campaign is aimed at making possible the developement of both Ice9 and Ice1, but due to the kickstarter pledge limit of 5.000£ we can't offer our backers the Ice9 printer, since it's retail price will be 19.900£ + VAT, 4 times the maximum allowed pledge plus VAT.
But have no fear, if you are interested in purchasing the Ice9, you can still place a pre-order  directly from our website www.norgesystems.com

Due to the huge feedback and astonishing technical support we received in the few days preceding the kickstarter campaign, we decided to proceed on both develop of Ice1 and ICE9 printers

Only for the limited time and number of pieces of the Kickstarter campaign, you can get your Ice1 at 5.000 GBP VAT Included, versus 9.000 GBP of the regular retail price!!! *

Now, with Ice1 and Ice9, we are ready to make a change.

We aim to make this high-end 3D printing technology finally affordable for everyone, building the world's first low-budget but high quality SLS printer that even a small or medium design studio can afford. Easy to use, small and with a nice look.
* additional import taxes migh be applied by certain countries

Why another 3D printer? Why SLS technology is so great?

  • Compared to other 3D printing technology is fast, reliable and "production oriented".
  • The surface of the printed prototype require almost no further finish: the surface is smooth and with no ridges
  • You can print very, very thin details
  • You can print highly complex and size-perfect geometries
  • This technology doesn't require to build extra geometry for the undercuts of your objects... less work to do, and less wasted material!

It can also work as an engraver!

Another interesting feature of the Ice1 and Ice9 SLS printers is the engraving/cutter function. You will be able to work on materials such as wood, paper, foam, or felt. The laser will draw or cut whatever you want simply using a standard vector file made with Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, just to name a few.

Materials

SLS printing technology allows a wide range of materials to be used to build prototypes.
You can use nylon powder and PA2200 to make durable plastic objects, but if your needs are more specific in term of toughness or impact resistance, Ice1 and Ice9 will work with glass or carbon fiber enriched polyamide powder.
You could even print soft and flexible objects (rubber) using polyurethane powder!

Risks and challenges

Mass production
Although the development of Ice1 and Ice9 is a good point, there may be risks associated with mass production, which requires a perfect coordination between the department responsible for the assembly and the chain of suppliers of optical equipment, electronic and structural.
The choice of fully assemble our printers in UK is aimed at achieving the highest standards of construction and quality, we are therefore testing different suppliers to find the right balance between cost containment and reliability in the supply of the material.
Therefore, the risk of delays in delivery due to failure to obtain the components will be limited, but still possible.

Certifications
Having to pass stringent safety tests (electrical, thermal and optical), phase of certification may require development times greater than those estimated.
