About this project
Hello ! We: photographer Jan Rickers and artist Per Schumann, realized a beautiful photo project in Berlin. With your help it will become: The Book " 1000 in Berlin "
Hallo !
Here comes a fresh "making of" Trailer of the project from only 16 year old Paul ( who is the son of Tommy our Layouter ) and his friend Cem Thank you guys, respect ! :
1,000 faces that show the life in this city and the lives of our time! This book would never have been made if we hadn’t kept having those inspiring moments when people grew excited about our ideas and became part of our project. Along with some basic information about them, we also asked the people whose portraits we took for a sentence that we could print beneath their picture, for instance a motto they live by, or a wish they’d like to send out into the world. The fact that so many heartfelt, positive sentences came together here is one that moved us deeply.
“1000 in Berlin” is made up of 1,000 portraits of people in Berlin: diverse, multi-cultural, personal, spanning generations—just like the city itself, and ranging from familiar faces in the art and culture scenes to steel workers at the flea market in Marienfelde. They all have their own voice here. The book is a declaration of love to this vibrant city and presents a multi-faceted picture of our time.
All photographs were taken by Jan Rickers. Every day, he works for magazines and advertising campaigns that celebrate the “perfect” look, and as we all know, photos like these are digitally enhanced and embellished. His aim with this project was a different one, however: to create portraits of people as natural as they themselves are, as authentic and honest. Because people are always their most beautiful just the way they are.
On 256 pages we show our tour through Berlin in the several areas of Berlin, about 500 of the People we met will be shown full page, or up to 4 pictures on a page.
From February 2015 till April 2016 we've traveled several times to Berlin to take the portraits of people. All photos are taken by Jan Rickers, he is a professional fashion and people photographer. We set up our tent at very different places, to get a big range of different people. Our idea was not only to shoot the hipsters or good situated people but also people from the flee market or farmers market, some homeless people, children .. just everyone who wanted to participate was welcome.
At the End of the project we also invited some actors and well known people to participate. the Mayor, some Fireworkers a policewoman are also in this book...
here is a choice of only 10 from 1000 humans, we offer this as a Post card or will send it via a email to you as a thank-you for your support.

Some impressions of the people in the book:
Deutsche Version :
Risks and challenges
Actually there are no big risks for this project, because the book is quite far right now. Everybody who published a photography book and of course the community of kickstarter knows that it needs a lot of money to publish a coffee table book, even though we found a great Editor in Berlin who want to launch this book in End of April. We will be more than happy if we can successful get this project supported by the kickstarter community ! the aim of 3000€ will be a quarter of the whole amount that we have to finance on our own to get the book printed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
