On April 15th, 2013 at 2:49PM exactly, two pressure cooker bombs exploded, ripping through a crowd of spectators at the Boston Marathon; this is their story.
A Boston Tale tells the story of the bombings from eye-witnesses, victims and the people directly affected by this terrible tragedy. We are aiming to line up a series of interviews from a number of people involved and create a powerful, emotional and memorable account of a day which changed the lives of many forever.
We feel it's important to give the survivors a chance to tell their story without any interference from the mainstream media and after having been in touch with a few, this was the best idea we came up with.
With over 280 people seriously injured and 3 tragic deaths, the Boston Marathon bombings have left deep scars in the community but the spirit of Boston is like no other. With the documentary, we'll examine the community spirit and find out just how they coped during this dark period in Boston's history.
With 3D mapping technology, using the funding we hope to raise through kickstarter, we'll be able to recreate a frame-to-frame accurate representation of the explosions and aftermath. The whole of Boylston street will be mapped and the audience will be able to see the carnage and devastation created by the explosions. This will only be possible with the £30,000 we hope to raise.
Having worked out the total cost of this project, we came up with a figure of £50,000. I'm going to be putting £20,000 into this out of my own pocket but unfortunately that's all I can afford. Having sat around a table for some hours discussing how we were going to fund the whole film, somebody suggested we start a Kickstarter project and here we are!
We're looking to raise £30,000 so we can give the victims a chance to tell their story and create a historical and memorable documentary. The total budget has been worked out right down to every single detail needed to make this documentary work, (A spreadsheet with a rundown of total costing is available upon request).
A film can be made for as little as $100 with a basic camera and a basic production team but the team behind this film wants to go the extra mile. A Boston Tale will be using the funds raised to do a 3D mapping of Boylston Street in which we'll use to recreate the precise chain of events which led to the tragedy. With a special effects company we're working with, we hope to give a finished product which can be a true representation of both the survivors and the actual events.
We've added a number of excellent rewards for the various tiers of funding. Anything that needs to be sent out via the post will be sent for free. As for the special rewards including the big 'Assistant director' reward, please get in touch with us for more details.
Director: Joshua Bonehill
My name is Joshua Bonehill, I'm a 21 year old British director. A Boston Tale will be my 2nd film to date. Since seeing the harrowing news that dawned our screens on April 15th, I was completely shocked by the events that unfolded over that dreadful day. I stood by and watched as the Boston community pulled together and showed the world they are not to be messed with. It was acts of kindness, courage and bravery in Boston that inspired me to make this film as images and stories emerged of heroic acts in the aftermath of the bombing.
I genuinely care about the survivors and want to give them chance to tell their story. Although I'm not American, I'm a British citizen; there is an age old Anglo-American connection that I'll be honouring by directing this film. I for one will not stand by and let the story of the survivors be forgotten, each of them has something equally important to add and we should listen to what they have to say. Let's make it happen!
I will be directing this film on a voluntary basis and taking no pay other than basic expenses. The team i have assembled for this documentary have also agreed to work on the same basis for the people of Boston.
Assistant Director: Terrance Frinton-Smith
Hi! I'm Terrance. Having worked in the film industry some 20 years, I've always been interested in "Reality films". When this project came up, I was pleased to work again with Joshua and want to help him make a clear platform for the survivors of this terrible tragedy to have a voice.
I live in Boston, MA with my wife and 4 children. Originally from the UK; I've been living in the US for 25 years. I hold this project very dear to my heart as a good few of my friends were actually injured at the marathon and am determined to make this film for them.
Producer: Theodore Maclarel
Hey, I'm Theodore but people call me Theo. I live in London, Great Britain and am a former model. I previously worked on the Independent documentary "A child of our time" as a screenwriter. Since getting the call from joshua, i've been very ambitious about this project but realise the importance of this film and how it really will be a voice for the survivors. I'm going to be working closely with some of the victims and will be giving them the best opportunity to give their story.
I'm 27 years old and have 2 children; Jack & Sapphire we've lived in the UK all our lives and it will be my first time in America when we go for filming after the summer.
Assuming we manage to raise the amount of funds needed to make this documentary, we will fly out to Boston after summer and begin filming over a one month period. The film will then be put into post-production over the winter period with a view it for early summer 2014. We're aiming to have 20 different interviews from individuals directly involved in the bombing and we want to feature a few of the more seriously injured peoples stories including the aftermath and how they have come to terms with what has happened.
All of the 3D art and special effects will be ready by the end of the year, the team we're working with are very good and have a track record for producing high quality graphics on time with no issues.
Before the release, we'll be looking to hold an event in Boston for mid may 2014 for everybody involved in the project, the bombing and wider community to come along to. We hope to have an advanced preview of the film for that event.
While we're not a multi-million pound production company, nor do we have the resources to create a hollywood epic, we hope to give you something that will be a worthy account of this terrible tragedy. Our main goal will be to give the victims and supporters a chance to have their say, a platform to give them a voice and express the emotional distress they have been forced to go through. This is very much an independent production.
The film will be released on DVD format which again the funds raised through kickstarter will help to fund. We'll also be having a reasonably priced download link.
If you would like to keep up to date with the project directly then please see the following:

Due to concerns raised by several people we need to clearly state that ALL profits raised by this film will be donated to the Boston One Fund, this film does not seek to raise profit for self gain, it is simply here to give a voice to the survivors and provide a detailed analysis of the events that took place on April 15th, 2013 in Boston.
