At AXIUS we believe the key to achieving true health and elite performance begins with developing a strong and functional core.
AXIUS and its founding principles were developed, and patented by former USA National Rugby Player: Brian Doyle - after learning firsthand the importance of core strength in post-operative rehabilitation.
AXIUS is guaranteed to strengthen the entire muscular chain, while challenging the core through varied levels of instability.
AXIUS addresses the following key areas of human movement:
- Core Strength- a strong core is necessary for transference of power/movement from the lower to upper extremities and vice versa
- Proprioception- establishing 3-dimensional balance and spatial awareness is a critical part of movement, as it relates to reactionary performance
- Joint Health- reduces risk of injury, by aiding in both joint mobility and stability.
AXIUS’ unique design provides the following benefits to help address the above principles:
- Versatility- the sheer amount of movements possible using one piece of equipment
- Portability- portable design allows you to work with AXIUS anywhere
- Efficiency- one AXIUS System will effectively replace other common core and mobility equipment found at the gym. Saving you space, and reducing your overall cost.
AXIUS is a patented, efficient and portable core workout system for strengthening your entire body through varied levels of instability.
In our opinion, functional strength is the best kind! AXIUS was designed to constantly improve your bodies natural movement patterns. Adding AXIUS into your routine will, build your strength, reduce joint pain, enhance mobility, and reduce risk of injury, all of which play a significant role in athletic performance. Training like an athlete, whether you consider yourself one or not, will ultimately allow you to be better at the things you love to do. Whether that be going for a weekend run, setting a new PR on an Olympic lift, getting through your weekend basketball game pain free, or improving your long ball on the golf course. Making AXIUS part of your weekly routine will provide a body that not only functions better, but looks great too. We are big fans of the mantra- "look good, feel good, play good!"
Brian knew he had a great product in AXIUS, and so he approached one of the most influential strength and conditioning coaches in the industry-Mike Barwis. Mike came on as Director of Programming to ensure the best education and curriculum would be available for AXIUS.
Mike is the founder and CEO of the Barwis Methods family of companies, Senior Advisor of Strength & Conditioning for the 2015 National League Champs—the New York Mets. He was formerly a consultant to the Miami Dolphins and Director of Strength & Conditioning for the University of Michigan. In 2003, Mike assumed the responsibility for the Mountaineers football program at West Virginia University. During his tenure, he designed and implemented programs for all of the Mountaineers 21 varsity sports.
Mike has trained more than 600 Olympic and professional athletes in over forty sporting events. He has been published in numerous journals, magazines and newspapers, and has written several books. Additionally, Mike is the star of the Discovery Channel’s international hit TV show “American Muscle”, which features his work with professional athletes and individuals with neuromuscular disorders. Mike is widely recognized as a leading authority on the neuromuscular systems and biomechanics, and has been recognized in his field as one of the most influential strength coaches of all time.
"AXIUS is an ideal training system for swimming because core strength and balance are integral to maintaining proper stroke technique. Elite swimmers are always looking for ways to improve core strength and after trying AXIUS, I knew right away its potential. Because AXIUS creates an unstable environment, it forces the body to adapt and that conditioning translates perfectly to correct body position in the water." - Peter Vanderkaay
AXIUS addresses your body across three planes of motion: tilt, rotation and roll. It allows you to reduce or increase degrees of instability to create safe, controllable stages of progression for building core strength and functional stability. Through this type of instability and balance training, you will recruit deep core and stabilizing muscles, not activated through traditional movements. These are the muscles that will help you move better!
You will also heighten your kinesthetic awareness or the understanding of where your body exists in 3-dimensional space. With constant instability, AXIUS will heighten your proprioceptors as you build core strength while allowing you to accurately control your body in an unstable environment. This will help to improve your reaction time and your bodies responsiveness in any athletic movement.
AXIUS can be used in either Dome Side Down or Ball Side Down positions. Ball Side Down is the more unstable position, and it requires more core control and stabilization, as you will need to contend with all three planes of motion: tilt, rotation, and roll.
In the Dome Side Down position, roll is eliminated and tilt and rotation are reduced, allowing for more controlled instability.

We are currently developing our Continuing Education Course Library for AXIUS Instructors. We hope to develop our first team of trainers through the Kickstarter community. While we are not ready to roll these programs out just yet, we will be offering our Kickstarter backers some free perks on our Continuing Education Courses. Please reach out directly with any questions.
Functional core strength is the foundation for optimal movement. Your core is much more than just the sought after six-pack abs (although AXIUS will produce those too!) – your core is the link between your upper and lower extremities, and it stabilizes the transfer of power across your body. The stronger your core is, the more efficiently you can transfer power.
Think of how a long bar is used to pry open a manhole cover: If the bar were made of a soft rubber, it would have very little effect in transferring the force necessary to open the cover. If the same external force were applied instead to a bar made of steel, the bar would be strong enough to transfer the generated power through the bar and into the manhole cover, and successfully pry it open.

Risks and challenges
Message from the founder:
This project has been meticulously thought out for a number of years. I teamed up with Flex Partners Inc. a reputable medical device development company to make AXIUS a reality. We have eliminated the majority of the risk associated with the product itself. We spent countless hours testing various prototypes iterations (I enjoyed our first bowling ball prototype shown above) to achieve the most optimal design for mass production (turned out not to be the bowling ball). We have tested dozens of production samples (as seen in videos above) in various workout environments including classes, home, physical therapy clinics, performance centers, and traditional gyms.
This project is the only thing our team is working on and delivering these orders in a timely fashion will be our number one priority.
