Wow... I just found out that this project got funded through the NSF (National Science Foundation)! Here's the quote from Brian Anthony Hernandez's interview with Bill Nye on Mashable:

"Hernandez: Last year, you used Kickstarter to try to fund an aeronautics game. It didn't reach its funding goal, but did that kill the project?

Nye: That ended up getting funded by the National Science Foundation. Although the Kickstarter campaign didn't kick the start, perhaps it raised awareness with The Man or the powers that be, and that lead to its success getting funded."

Here's a link to the full article:

I'm surprised no one came by here to post any sort of update about that. I mean, I know we didn't successfully back the project here, but there are 1,130 people here who TRIED to back it. I'll have to poke around and see if there's any info as to where it is in development at this point.... and maybe poke GameDesk to give us all an "official" update here. ;-)

Either way, I'm glad to hear that this game will be getting made after all.

Aww... I was really looking forward to a Bill Nye Bow-Tie

      Better luck next time!
(also.. Android user here, I only donated at the level I did for the Bow-Tie, and the HOPE that it'd meet the android goal)

Too bad, I only did the minimum pledge myself, because while I thought it was a great idea, it was Apple only.
Realizing that there are a LOT of Android users out there as well and that making Android versions of things like this can get you more pledges. The only reason I even did the minimum, since I have no use for the IOS app, was seeing Bill Nye's name attached to the project. Good luck, I hope this does find a way to get completed.

    4. Joe Rubinstein on December 28, 2012

Bummer, but it's still a great idea :)

    5. Sumoslap on December 28, 2012

I will pledge again! Don't lose hope!

    6. Mark on December 28, 2012

Even though this project did not reach its funding goal, there was a pretty good turn-out. Perhaps a similar project with a smaller scope and budget would have success.

I believe in this project, I have raised my pledge

    11. Mini Angel on December 19, 2012

I don't have 100K for the Android version so I am just making a nominal pledge to show my support.

I really hope this project reaches its goal. I'm a student and an aspiring game developer. One of my inspirations is how Valve is putting Portal into school with their teach with portals campaign. I love the fact that video games are now being used for education, and this Aero 3D Bird Flight Game definitely lands within my interest of educational games. I really hope you guys get a surge of backers soon, because this is no doubt a great and useful idea.

Do bow-tie level backers still get a game download?

    17. Adam Tuck on December 13, 2012

Aw, guys, why can't you ship the bowties to Canada? That's really disappointing.

    18. Chris McKenzie on December 12, 2012

Can I get Bill Nye to sign my bowtie?

Another vote for Android or PC.

    20. Lincoln Thurber on December 8, 2012

GameDesk, I really need an Android version for this to be useful. So, please fast track an Android-based version because so many people have those devices.

I don't have an Ipad, but I'm hoping you'll reach the funding level to make an Android version, or better yet, one for PC.

    24. William Cass on December 3, 2012

You have my pledge, though I will echo the comments of others and ask that an Android or even a PC release not be a stretch goal. I don't even have an iPad but I really want to see this game through due to all the qualities of it - being able to actually play it would also be nice!

I donated a bit for Bill Nye, but I would have donated much more if it was actually on a platform I use (PC or Android).

Looks like my kinda game.. fly around and enjoy the scenery :)

It looks a bit weird with "ships within US only" for the 2750 backer level. Can only US citizens have digital islands?

Thought about an open source business model? Feels ripe for a viral license.

    31. Peter Wysoczanski - Obsidan Order on November 29, 2012

I do not have an iPad, but cant say no to Bill Nye :) he has taught me great things and I owe him.

    32. Yourmothers on November 29, 2012

Simply because Bill Nye is so incredibly awesome! That is a scientific fact!

    33. Misha Coolgroove on November 29, 2012

I have to agree with arn. It's not fair to make Droid availability a stretch goal. It doesn't take nearly that much money to make it work on both OS.

I think you should have a pledge that gives you like an hour oh science with Bill Nye bet you could get a lot for that I know that if I could afford it I would spend a lot of money for that chance...

Just a suggestion, but there should be a mid-range package that comes with an iPad.
And thank you Bill, you are a role model for all ages.
