We're so glad you are here!
We’ve been working on new products. Now, we are ready to produce the final products, promote them and bring them into the market. Be the first to get one of these DAM products with a great discount, made with care and high quality. Discover the one you like the most and make the new products possible!
How did it all start?
DAM started with the bedside tables Nel and Maria. They came from the desire to tell a story about portuguese culture, to provoke someone. We took advantage of the humor and everyday things in order to generate enjoyment and cultural knowledge.
So, we gave a new context to the straw hats, typical of the portuguese region of Baixo Minho. By the end, we drew illustrations of the characters’ belongings in the drawers.
Meantime, excited with the result and with the POPs award promoted by the portuguese institution Serralves, it became clear that there was commercial viability in these products. This culminates in the exhibition of our first products at the 100% Design in London and in a large visibility on the press.
About the new products

Who’s talking about DAM?
“Good design tells a story, but the most important element of a story is a lovable character – something which Portugese design studio has in abundance. In fact, Hugo Silva and Joana Santos have invented an entire cast of humoristic and functional furniture characters” - ArchiExpo
“When first viewing Portuguese furniture design team DAM's Architizer profile, it's difficult to contain the giggles (...) Yet the brand's whimsical scenes aren't just a gimmick; they actually get at the heart of DAM's design philosophy.” - Architizer
“Full of character, Zé will light your space while giving you a place to hold your accessories. A new way to look at a traditional valet stand.” - DesignMilk
“Playful and humorous, narrative designs combine the duos’ passions for everyday objects and graphic design, integrated with elements of traditional Portuguese techniques.” - Despoke

What we have already invested
We have produced several prototypes with portuguese artisans and factories. We developed the brand, the catalogue, the brochure, the price list and the website. This process culminated in the exhibition of the first products at the 100% Design in London last September (2013) and in a large visibility on the press.
This traditional process of designing, developing, producing, distributing, marketing and selling a product involved a long chain of people and companies and required our own investment of 12.000 Pounds, a lot of hours and a lot of work till now.
How the money will be spent
We have been developing new products for the past 6 months, testing and exploring the dimensions, materials and finishings to create the best possible experience. Now, we are ready to produce the final products and bring fun, beautiful and high quality products to the market.
So, all the funds will go towards:
- final production;
- promotion flyers;
- marketing supports;
- exhibit of the products;
- shipping from the factory to us, then to the exhibit;
- shipping the rewards to you.
- July: Final production of the new products. Development of the packaging.
- August: Print new marketing supports such as brochure, catalogue and price list.
- September: Ship out products to London. Exhibition of the products at the 100% Design in London. Promotion the products with the press.
- October / November: Ship out the rewards to all Kickstarter backers. Start selling products on the market.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Now, please share it with your family and friends on Facebook, Twitter and all the other social media platforms, forums and communities. Spread the word! If you are a backer, say it loud and proud. Next, we would love to hear what you think about our products because we always appreciate feedback that can help us improve DAM’s family.
We would also like to thank the people that have helped us in this project so far: Filomena Ferreira for her work on the campaign video; Hugo Félix for the photography of our products; our partners that make the products a reality; Beatriz Tejeiro for the advices about the campaign; and finally, all the press who've published our work so far.
Risks and challenges
The good news is that the first DAM products have been successfully developed and brought to market before. Besides this, to mitigate the risk of producing new products, we already developed and tested the prototypes. So, we learned a great deal: where setbacks can occur, where problems are encountered in the production line and customer preferences. The biggest risk to the project will therefore be in timing, due to the proximity of the holidays of the industries in August. However, we are very confident that they are more than capable of handling the production in time.
Another challenge would be to fulfill the shipment of the rewards on time. We are prepared to do whatever it takes to keep our backers happy and we will keep backers posted at all stages of the project, providing total transparency if we encounter any delay.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
