Hi Natalie, Thanks for checking in. Yes, everyone got their books in June as promised. And your book is waiting for you. But you never filled out your survey. What you need to do is log in to Kickstarter and you'll see a banner at the top of the page. Please fill out the survey and then I'll be able to get you your book. Kickstarter doesn't provide me with any of your information, so I need that. If you have any questions you can email me directly at

Hi there. I noticed that a lot of people commented back in June that they received copies of the book. Should we have gotten ours by now or are they still going out? Thanks!

    6. Cory Silverberg Creator on June 9, 2012

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing this, how great that your 6-year-old read it to his siblings! My favourite kids books are ones that get read again and again and I'm glad to hear this may be one of those. I hope at some point you tell your kids that YOU helped make this book happen (and by extension they did too, only you coughed up the dough). for which I'm very grateful.

    7. Elizabeth Cole on June 9, 2012

Oh, WOW. My copy came a few days ago, and I love it: more importantly, so do my kids. I think in 2-3 days, I've read it 5-6 times, and my husband's read it another handful. My 6-year-old some has also read it aloud to his little sibs at least once, maybe more. It is a HIT.

The pictures are absolutely gorgeous. I love the way that the people are all just PEOPLE, without race or gender or anything, but are immediately recognizable as people. The words are simple and matter-of-fact and easy to understand, and the way phrases repeat make the story easy for the kids to grasp. I am SO GLAD I could be a part of this whole process. Thank you!

Sarah, yes, I'm so glad that the book helps us talk to kids about our actual bodies, not just the idealized ones. thank you for backing the book and sharing your response here. Cory

Hi Lawrence, I'm glad to know it's made it to Malaysia already! I'm working on 2 and dreaming about 3 already, so just try to keep your kids from growing too fast and we should be fine :)

Got our book yesterday! My 3 1/2 year old daughter wanted to read it right away and loved it!!! I love how it talks about doctors and midwives as well as different ways babies are born, she always asks how I got my c-section scar! Thank you for creating such a beautiful, thoughtful, universal and funny book for all families!

You can use all or any part you want. Your book is beautiful and exceeded my high expectations :) I am happy to help you spread the word about it.

    14. Cory Silverberg Creator on June 7, 2012

Rebecca that is so great, thanks so much for sharing. Many backers have been telling me they are reading it to very young children and it's kind of a dream come true for me. I'm glad your mom liked it too! I'm collecting comments from reader's. I won't use names but are you okay with me using part of this as a quote? Thanks again for helping make this happen.

    15. Rebecca Tanguay on June 7, 2012

We got out book today. I read it first with my mother, and we both loved it. It uses proper language in a simple, matter of fact manner without assumptions and leaves so much room to make the story interactive with children.

I then read it to my 2 month old daughter. She stared at the brightly coloured pages intently. As she grows, it will be a part of her library and we will read it regularly. I can see it being a favourite.

    16. Cory Silverberg Creator on June 6, 2012

Hi Lori! Thanks for letting me know I'm glad you like the book (and the button). I'll be making the book for sale in the next few weeks and am happy for any help I can get to spread the word. Also I'm very interested in hearing from any library or organization that might not have the funds but would still like a book, so if you have any thoughts I'd love to hear them, and when the book is ready for sale I'll be sending everyone a note. You can always email me directly at In the meantime enjoy!

      Hi Lana,
Thanks for asking about this. The short answer is yes they can contact me directly. I'm working on a new website for What Makes a Baby that will include information for libraries, but for now the easiest way for people to reach me is via email

Thanks again for your support and for helping spread the word in Saskatoon. Hopefully I'll be able to come there sometimes as I travel with the book. I've never been. Cory

    21. Lana Lehr on May 6, 2012

Great work! I am so excited to share this with everyone and read it myself. i am also hoping to approach our local library here in Saskatoon to get it in there...can they contact you directly?

Thanks Tee Jay, and we made it! I don't know exactly when but last time I added them all up we had sold 2,002 books. And there's still 9 hours to go. Thanks to you for getting a second copy. When I send the form about rewards you'll be able to ask us to ship it somewhere else or send both copies to you so you get the pleasure of giving the gift in person. Thanks again for all your support. Cory

We pledged again and will donate our second copy to the local Early Years Centre.
I also wish there was a countdown for the goal of 2000 pre-ordered copies so we could keep track along with you. Can't wait for the final update. How exciting this is!

    25. Dr. Julie C. Schultz on March 15, 2012

I hope you enjoy the beautiful countdown. Right now, 18 hours to go! I cannot wait to read this to my son, the product of infertility treatment (with eggs donated by my best friend Katherine). Congratulations! You have created something so wonderful, lasting, and worthwhile. Thank you for telling all of our stories!

    26. Cory Silverberg Creator on March 15, 2012

      Hi David,
Thanks for backing the project and now upgrading! Once the project closes I will send you a form through Kickstarter and that will ask for the mailing address you want it sent to and have a space for you to indicate who to make the book out to. Even though you've told me here, please fill that out also since I'll be working from that information.
The books will hopefully be going out the second and third week of June. So it sounds like that's right when you'll be moving. I won't know precise dates until May when the book goes to the printer. Is it possible to have it sent somewhere else where you can then pick it up? I'd hate for it to get lost in address-change universe but I'm not sure about my capacity to pull your order and hold it. If that's what I need to do please email me directly at Best, Cory

      Hi Cory,

Thanks for doing this project. I just upgraded my pledge to $30 for the personalized inscription but am wondering how to enter my son's name for the inscription--I didn't see any kind of instruction box so I hope it's okay to just ask here--can you inscribe it to "Theo"?

Also, my mailing address will change in mid-June. When are you planning to mail the books--should I send you my updated address?

I hate to disappoint your daughters Deb but there is a noticeable lack of otters and platypus' (platypi?) in the book. But I'm pretty sure they'll still like the brightly colored drawing and hopefully they will appreciate the absence of euphemism. But tell them those suggestions will be seriously considered for the second book (ages 7-9). Thanks!

This morning, as my girls were reading a Robie Harris book, I told them about Cory's new book, coming soon. They said,"mom, is it going to be about the birds and bees, because we're sick of that. How about an otter and a platypus?" I said I'd ask. ;)

What a great project Cory! I posted this to my FB page so my friends know about it. My daughter was conceived the "old-fashioned" way but my niece and nephews weren't and like you said- their story is not reflected in the standard version of "where babies come from". I can't wait to get my copy (and the ipad version too!)

Hi Frank, I think that's a t-shirt slogan (or maybe bumper sticker) waiting to be made "it takes a village to make a child". Thanks for the support, I'm biased but it speaks well of you that the first book on the shelf is inclusive sex education!

    42. Frank Emanuele on February 23, 2012

Great project Cory! My partner and I are knee deep in our baby making adventure which includes a donor, a surrogate, doctors, nurses, lawyers, social workers, a massage therapist, family and friends. They say it takes a village to raise a child... for us it takes a village to MAKE a child. Your book may very well be the first to make it on the book shelf in the baby room!

Hi Kelsey, Thanks for the support and asking about the next books. When this Kickstarter project is over you'll get an email from me through Kickstarter that will have a bunch of questions so I can get you your rewards. That's when Kickstarter gives me everyone's email address and I will of course keep everyone posted on the next book. And in my mind everyone who bought the first book will be able to get the second one at some sort of discount. So all of this to say, as long as you stay a backer, you'll be connected to me. If you use such things, you can also follow me on Twitter (I'm @aboutsexuality) or find me on Facebook (just my name). Thanks again!

    48. Cory Silverberg Creator on February 20, 2012

Hi again Tisha, Ontario Early Years centres are a great idea. I've now got them on my list of places I'll reach out to. I have lots of friends in public health and sexual health in Ontario so one of them may have a connection. If you know anyone or have any other thoughts please let me know and thanks again for all your support on behalf of the book.

I responded a greater length to you via Facebook but please keep me posted on your book and book ideas, I agree we need many more books like this, and I'll be first in line to buy yours. Cory
