About this project

The trigger for the NATTEN-project was the contradictory emotions that obsessed me at that time. I was in a period of deep sadness just after my brother's death. The environment where I lived was the setting for the ambiguous feelings that haunted me. There was both this desire to go forwards, to move towards healing, but also to prolong the mourning, to sink even more into my discomfort.

At first, I used nature as a way to get my anger out. Before, I had for years been observing this wild nature, without any real interest in it. I suddenly wanted to immerse myself in it – and take refuge there.

NATTEN was a long process of research and experimentation. I needed to confront myself, to seek what I did not know photographically, both technically and aesthetically.

All the images were taken not far from my home in the Värmland in Sweden, a region consisting mainly of forests and lakes. A secluded place, calm, but also restless, beautiful and cruel. Here I could use my body as an object, like the main character in a story.

I am delighted that this will now - with your support - become a high-quality photobook with a congenial design by Greger Ulf Nilsson.

Risks and challenges

Producing a high-quality photobook is always a challenge – both creatively and financially. Margot Wallard has spent years to complete this project. All images are ready and the design is being completed right now. The money raised will cover the basic costs of producing the book, including repro, pre-press, design and the printing plant cost. The print run will be 2.000 copies.
