WHY WE ARE HERE:
We are seeking $20,000 to continue production of the STANLEY MARCUS documentary in Europe. In early 2013, we plan to film interviews with confirmed participants Tai and Rosita Missoni, Wanda Ferragamo, Laudomia Pucci, Hubert de Givenchy and Emanuel Ungaro. These six fashion legends are waiting with open arms to share their personal stories about "Mr. Stanley", the genius behind Neiman Marcus. We believe the inclusion of these International icons will tell the greater story of Stanley Marcus' influence on a global scale.
Mr. Stanley is considered one of the greatest business and artistic minds to come out of Dallas and we want to inspire people with a layered, far reaching story of a life worth living. Due to his unparalleled reputation and the love for him around the world there is potential to film additional European interviews beyond the ones currently planned once the production trip is secured. In order to truly tell this story we will have traveled around the world.
WHO IS STANLEY MARCUS:
Stanley Marcus is remembered as a prince of retail but he was also an extraordinary civic force and humanitarian. Mr. Stanley, as he was affectionately called, is credited as the first American retailer to hire an African-American model, one of the first business owners to desegregate a Dallas-based restaurant, the store's famed Zodiac Room, and an active voice in local and national political spectrums.
As an author and publisher, Mr. Stanley expertly employed the written word to spread his views. He never shied away from controversy and even used an award acceptance speech from the Advertising Hall of Fame to denounce the direction of advertisements toward inappropriate and explicit content.
As an activist he served on the World War II War Production Board and helped save the cotton industry in America during war-induced shortage. The French Legion of Honor, the highest award for a non-French citizen, for services provided to the fashion industry, The New York Fashion Designers Annual Award, The Neiman Marcus Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Fashion and the Star of Italian Solidarity are a fraction of the honors, awards and recognition Mr. Stanley received in his 96-year lifespan.
Mr. Stanley was a collector, partron and lover of the arts. He inspired many to begin their own collections and played a major part in developing the Dallas Arts District into the beautiful center it is today. He was instrumental in securing I.M. Pei as architect for the district's world-renowned Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
More than 2,000 people from around the world attended Mr. Stanley’s memorial service after his passing in 2002. He touched, and in many cases significantly influenced, a myriad of lives as he traveled the world in search of the finest quality products to be incorporated into the Neiman Marcus enterprise.
This story is more than a fashion documentary and will be a reference to the life worth living. Mr. Stanley was a visionary; his entrepreneurial spirit lives on today through the practices, quotes and attitudes he brought to this world. Board rooms around the world are named after him, CEO's, executives and sales managers quote him to their staff to this day and names became brands due to his ingenuity and desire to be surrounded by successful people.
