Brave Bit is a 2D Micro Puzzle Platform Game, which features a single character named, Brave Bit. However unlike most platform games today, it is Upward Scrolling, which is achievable through the use of a unique mechanic. By moving all the way across a floor and though the wall, the player is able to move Brave Bit up to the next floor.
The player must retrieve orbs, which opens a portal, allowing Brave Bit to move one step closer to returning to his realm.
As simple as that sounds, between Brave Bit and his path home, lie various obstacles to pass and puzzles to solve. The player has an infinite number of lives to collect the orbs and get Brave Bit through all portals.
Each level would feature 5 floors, all of which are visible to the player. The player must solve puzzles and get Brave Bit to the portal safely to move forward in the game. Both Brave Bit and the Portal would be placed at various positions throughout the levels, and depending on the level of difficulty selected the position of the portal might be unknown until the player has retrieved a minimum of 1 Orb.
Levels Of Difficulty
There would be 3 levels of difficulty, which are as follows,
1. Easy - Player can pass without the need to collect a single orb, and the portal is visible.
2. Regular - Player is required to collect at least 1 orb to open the portal, which is only visible once the orb has been collected. All orbs are visible throughout the game.
3. Hard - Player is required to collect at least 2 orbs to open the portal, which is only visible once 2 orbs have been collected. Only 1 orb is visible at a time, collecting one presents a new one.
As further incentive to the backer rewards, all backers would receive EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO 10 EXTRA BONUS LEVELS, for each world (including those by meeting the various stretch goals), which would be redeemable by an in game code!!!
Programming & Art, by Rakesh Ram
In order to keep my costs as low as possible, I will be programming and creating all of the major art required for the game. I have been working on game development for the last 4 years, prior to which I achieved my masters in mechanical engineering, where I got a real feel for coding. I have been sketching and working on my digital art since my teen years and have become quite good at it, so feel very confident about completing the major art aspects of the build, however would be bringing in a freelance artist for some animation to further enhance the artwork.
Sound Design, by Logan Byers
Initially I was going to create the entire game single handedly, however through Kickstarter, I have managed to secure an Awesome Sound Designer, Logan Byers, who was impressed with the project, enough to donate his time to the development of Brave Bit for the experience of working on the project.
Logan Byers is an award-winning artist whose passion for sound and music has found expression in games, trailers, and movies. His classical musical training with technical expertise and cutting edge technology, allow him to make creative sound design at cinematic quality for a variety of projects. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Audio Production from the Art Institute of California. He has won a national advertising agency award for his sound design work and has been awarded at gaming conventions for his game sound design. With the ability to produce realistic and emotional sound effects, his abilities can serve a variety of projects and budgets. As a sound designer, Logan’s abilities and extensive sound effects libraries make him a great choice for all of your sound design needs.
To start the campaign I have completed all of the core game logic, which include controls, game mechanics and physics. I have also set up 5 levels that would feature in the game for the purpose of the video. All that is left is programming the remaining levels, 50% of which have been designed, building the menu system and finally testing.
I wanted the game to have a simple feel to it, and so went with silhouette styled artwork. As mentioned all of the main artwork thus far has been created by myself, and I will continue to do so to keep my costs low, however would be bringing in a freelance artist for some animation.
Sound Effects & Ambience
The game is quite dark, and therefore would be complimented by sound effects and ambience that highlight the dark tones, with a sense of realism as opposed to most platform games.
I decided to go with Kickstarter because I could get people involved in the development of the game. I could also get a real idea of the appeal of the game through crowd funding, through which, I am also able to minimise my risk. Finally, I think the community is awesome and wish to be part of it!
With the funds I will be able to dedicate all my time towards development, which would ensure the completion of Brave Bit.
The goal amount would contribute towards the following,
1. Completing Logic - Menu systems and the first world of Brave Bit, which would feature 30 levels.
2. Animation - I would be paying for some light animation to further enhance my simplistic art style.
3. Advertising - Most of my advertising would be achieved through app review sites.
4. Developer Fees, Software licensing and ANDROID based test equipment.
In order to have a real chance at meeting my goal, I have limited a few things, which I would be working on if I meet the following stretch goals,
I have set up some great rewards for your pledges! You can also choose from a selection of designs! Have a look below!
Thank you for taking time out to view my campaign, your support is much appreciated!
Risks and challenges
Since I will be developing the majority of the game by myself there will be no issues with regards to the completion of the game. The only risk involved in the game would be the impact the game makes in the stores, however this is something that I hope to achieve through cost effective advertising methods.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
