"Ginger Baker did everything Eric Clapton did, but backwards and in high heels." by Pocketful of Claptonite, Athens GA's Only 70s Canadian Power Trio.
We are Pocketful of Claptonite, Athens GA’s Only 70s Canadian Power Trio. We have launched our Kickstarter campaign to complete our debut album “Ginger Baker did everything Eric Clapton did, but backwards and in high heels.” Our music is Appalachian Trance Metal, referencing the ghosts of the region with energy harnessed from popular and unpopular sources alike. The sounds we make are spontaneous- orchestrated and arranged through the lens of experience, trust, and enthusiasm. PoC reshapes the classic guitar, bass, and drums format into something fresh and hopefully timeless. It’s about texture and contrast coupled with unrestrained melody and ultra-rhythmic propulsion. We like to have fun with our “serious” music.
The album was recorded with engineer Tom Lewis at the new 1093 studio here in Athens and we’re very happy with it. The recording is detailed, airy, and has a sense of spatial depth that really pops. The music reveals itself over the course of a full listening and travels a wide array of fields. We additionally have community and family involvement represented through the Athens Unitarian Universalist women’s choir singing on our take of the Japanese springtime cherry blossom song Sakura, the coda of the album.
PoC has been together for two years. The band members are Darrin Cook on double bass, Jamie DeRevere on drums, and Killick Hinds on guitar and miscellaneous noisemakers. Darrin and Jamie are stalwarts in the Athens jazz and rock scene, having played together since childhood. They currently work in the band Efren, and have a longstanding history with Breathlanes. Killick is a heavy touring artist specializing in improvisation on unique stringed instruments, and has played and recorded with members of Mastodon, the Georgia Guitar Quartet, ROVA Saxophone Quartet, Vandermark 5, and many others.
Our Kickstarter goal is very modest, an ask of $333.00. We are going to release the “Ginger Baker…” album via digital distribution and have yet to pay photographer Galen Burke for the cover image, plus we’ll be printing up digital download cards as well. If we receive more than we’ve asked for, the additional money would go to paying back the cost of recording, mixing, and mastering, which alone has cost $1,620.00. If we don’t reach our goal, we’ll scrounge up the necessary funds somehow, and will still honor the non-physical rewards (digital downloads and local house concerts).
To help reach our goal, we have set the first reward level at $1.00. Supporters at this level will receive a digital download of our “Ginger Baker…” album the day it is released. Yes, our labor of love for only one dollar! (And seriously, if we don’t meet our fundraising goal, you’ll still get the download.) There’s more reward info to your right…
We’re very appreciative of your time and attention. It’s an honor that you’d consider making a pledge. With great things ahead, peace and love from Darrin, Jamie, and Killick.
