About this project
THE MYSTERY AT PORT GREELY™
The award-nominated role-playing game, Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea™ is back with a brand new, exciting adventure, written by the game's creator, Jeffrey Talanian.
This sword-and-sorcery adventure module is site-based, fleshing out a small portion of the Hyperborea setting and providing classic, memorable adventure material.
The Mystery at Port Greely is designed for the AS&SH™ game, but it is suitable for use with the traditional editions of the world's most popular RPG, as well as its modern simulacra, such as OSRIC™ and Swords & Wizardry™.
Physically, this module will be saddle-stitched, ranging from approximately 32 to 40 pages, and measuring 8.5 x 11 inches. It will feature a full-colour, card stock cover, and sharp, black & white interiours on durable paper.
And here is my talking head, to tell you all about it:
Until recently, the peculiar village of Port Greely was renowned as one of the most prolific exporters of crustaceans in the realm. Then, about three years ago, the Greely lobstermen severed all ties with outside partners. Subsequent attempts at renegotiation were shunned. More recently, a small group of Fishmongers’ Guild representatives from the City-State of Khromarium has gone missing in Port Greely, and answers have been less than forthcoming. At present, the guild seeks answers. They want to know what became of their representatives, and they wish to reestablish their lucrative partnership with the Port Greely lobstermen. Your party has been contracted to help resolve the mystery at Port Greely.
The Mystery at Port Greely is an adventure designed for from four to six characters of 4th through 6th level, for use with Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea and other traditional fantasy role-playing games.

Add-ons for HYPERBOREA: The Mystery at Port Greely Kickstarter consist of extra (unsigned) modules and T-shirts!
Add a Module. If you increase your pledge by an increment of $20, you can receive an unsigned print copy (or copies, if you want more than one) of The Mystery at Port Greely. Some folks refer to these as “play” copies; often collectors who wish to put aside their signed editions.
Add a T-shirt. If you increase your pledge by an increment of $25, you can receive a T-Shirt of The Mystery at Port Greely (see mock graphic below). We will survey you for your size after the campaign is over.
Other Add-Ons. Did you miss our last Kickstarter Campaign? If you would like print copies of Ghost Ship of the Desert Dunes, Forgotten Fane of the Coiled Goddess, and/or Beneath the Comet, you can increase your pledge by increments of $20 for each module. These are normally sold at $22 apiece.
This is how to make an add-on:
#1. Select the “Manage your Pledge” button above. If you have not pledged yet, it will say, “Back This Project.”
#2. Increase your pledge amount by the total of the add-ons that you want to add.
#3. After the Kickstarter Campaign is over, you will receive a survey that will confirm your add-on requests (confirming T-shirt size, module choices, etc.).
We have come up with some modest stretch goals for this Kickstarter campaign. More may be added while the project is live.
$6,500 = Inside Cover Maps. ACHIEVED! Printing on the inside covers is a traditional and well-received component of classic RPG adventure modules.
$8,500 = Additional Art. ACHIEVED! We will commission additional pieces of interiour art to further improve the visual component of this adventure module.
$10,500 = Bookmarks. ACHIEVED! Every print customer receives a free 2 x 6-inch card stock bookmark for each module purchased. These bookmarks will feature the cover art seen above.
$12,000 = Additional Map. ACHIEVED! We will commission yet another map, this time from Ben Ball, whose regional maps of Hyperborea can be seen on the inside covers of "Beneath the Comet" and "Ghost Ship of the Desert Dunes."
Shipping will be billed at a time when we are close to fulfilling this Kickstarter campaign. We will use Paypal invoicing to bill you, but for those customers who do not prefer Paypal, we can also invoice you through Square.
All backers are required to pay shipping charges beyond their pledge. These shipping charges will be reasonable, using the current USPS rates for both domestic and international customers. Once your invoice is paid, we will prepare to ship your pledge rewards to you.
Note that we are careful and considerate when packaging RPG materials, taking the approach of a collector's mentality. We intend to use boxes, just as we did with the last KS campaign.
OUTTAKES: Filming a North Wind Adventures Kickstarter video is a big production. Observe how my detail-oriented crew prepares me for the big shoot, removing all the unsightly dog hair from my T-shirt.
Risks and challenges
Every Kickstarter project faces potential setbacks that can slow or even halt production. To mitigate the possibility of setbacks, I've taken several steps to ensure a positive outcome: The writing, cover art, cover design, and maps are complete. Most of the interiour art is complete, and editing is underway. Once this Kickstarter funds, we will have layout, printing, and shipping to manage.
Stretch goals are another concern. Of course, the idea is to create stretch goals that provide incentive for additional funding, but it is easy to fall into the trap of dreaming up stretch goals that are difficult, costly, or time-consuming to produce. To this end, I've come up with modest, reasonable stretch goals.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
