About the Game:
Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea (AS&SH) is a forthcoming role-playing game by North Wind Adventures. It is played with paper, pencil, dice, and imagination. Participants include one referee and one or more players. The referee prepares and presents the adventure material, and the players create player characters, such as the principal classes of fighter, magician, cleric, and thief; or a subclass, such as barbarian, berserker, cataphract, illusionist, necromancer, pyromancer, druid, shaman, assassin, legerdemainist, scout, and more!
The heroes of an AS&SH game delve dungeons filled with horrifying monsters, lethal traps, and bewildering puzzles; they explore savage wilderness frontiers and hostile borderlands; they probe ancient ruins and investigate cursed tombs; they match steel against sorcery, and sorcery against steel; and they plunder for gold, gems, and magical treasure.
Hyperborea is the default campaign setting for AS&SH. This “flat earth” realm is overlooked by a bloated, dying sun, and hemmed in by the mystical boreas (or “North Wind”). Hyperborea is in a perpetual state of decay, populated by disharmonious men, hostile monsters, and weird, alien beings.
The setting is inspired by the fantastic literature of Robert E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, and Clark Ashton Smith. Other inspirational authors include Edgar Rice Burroughs, Fritz Leiber, Abraham Merritt, Michael Moorcock, and Jack Vance. AS&SH rules and conventions are inspired by the original 1974 fantasy wargame and miniatures campaign rules as conceived by E. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson.
Hyperborea is an adaptable campaign setting. It can be used independently or in conjunction with other settings, published or home-brewed; indeed, Hyperborea might be just beyond the North Wind of any campaign setting.
About the Designer and Illustrator:
Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea is the creation of game designer Jeffrey P. Talanian, who is best known for his work with Gary Gygax, with whom he co-authored the critically acclaimed Castle Zagyg: The Upper Works, and other publications. Since Mr. Gygax's passing, Talanian has dedicated himself to the design and development of the AS&SH role-playing game.
AS&SH is fully illustrated by Talanian's creative partner, Ian Baggley, an award winning fine artist from the Toronto School of Art. Baggley, who prefers to work with the mediums of oil paint, charcoal, and ink, brings a dark and moody tone to the AS&SH project that is scarcely matched in modern role-playing games.
Together, Talanian and Baggley have painstakingly designed and developed the AS&SH project for over three years, and they anticipate an early 2012 release.

North Wind Adventures is a small press publisher that is just getting started. We need your help to get our core product, Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea, in print and available for purchase, both online and in hobby shops in the USA and other countries. Every level of support, from bronze to platinum, gets us closer to achieving this end. Meeting a $6000 support goal is just enough to allow us to fund the initial print run of AS&SH.
Additional support will allow us to order more game boxes and other necessary materials; this will put us in a better position to place AS&SH into distribution. Additional funds beyond our goal will also help us to better advertise our product, rent convention booths, and sooner produce further support material (adventures, supplements, etc.).
No donation is too small, and every donation is greatly appreciated! Thank you very kindly for your time and consideration.

Since starting this Kickstarter campaign, I've received more than a few questions regarding the AS&SH system, its mechanics, what makes it different from its inspiration material, what makes it different from other "retro-clones," and so forth. I'd like to point out that we have our own sub-forum at ODD74. You can find more details about the game there, so please feel free to participate in the discussions or start a thread of your own. Here is the link: http://odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi…
If you wish to order an extra AS&SH boxed set, simply increase your donation by $50.00, and add applicable shipping (free USA, $3 Canada/Mexico, $5 overseas.
EXAMPLE: A copper level supporter ($50) from Canada wishes to obtain two copies of the AS&SH boxed set. Such a patron should remain at Copper, though pledge $106.00 ($50 for copper level support + $50 for extra boxed set + $6 shipping). Finally, send us a message to confirm.
When the fundraiser is over, we will ask each Silver to Platinum level sponsor for their appropriate t-shirt size.
What if for personal or professional reasons I do not wish to have my real name listed in the credits as a supporter?
If you would like to use your favorite online handle instead, that is fine. We would place your favorite user name in quotes; e.g. Jane Doe, John Doe, "Ghul," etc. If you prefer no listing whatsoever, that is also fine.
