DCB Dance is performing at WestFest in NYC!  Help us raise at least $2000 before December 4, 2011!

DCB Dance under the direction of Diane Cahill Bedford has been invited to perform at the WestFest Dance Festivalin New York City on December 8th & 10th. The work to be performed, Herd Instinct, a brand new choreographic work by Diane Bedford, will feature eight (8) dancers and will be premiered first in Houston, TX. In December, the company will perform at the historic Merce Cunningham Studio Theater; a theater established by the legendary Cunningham 40 years ago that will close its doors forever this December due to his recent passing.

This festival will feature the work of 18 mid-level and advanced career choreographers. DCB Dance will perform on Thursday and Saturday nights. We are in need of funding to help the company pay for lodging and travel expenses. The company dancers are comprised of college students who are majoring in dance, so they also plan to engage in dance classes in the various studios located around NYC with some of the most prestigious dance instructors in the world. The opportunity to travel, perform, and study in New York City is an amazing and exciting opportunity for us! Donations in any amount are welcome and greatly appreciated!

Herd Instinct was developed by Diane Cahill Bedford in order to portray the idea of the “pack mentality” in which all members of a group lack individuality causing them to think and act alike. The dance opens with the gathering of the dancers into the herd with aggression, power, precision, and rhythmical attack. By the middle, we see the pack functioning on autopilot, succumbing to the power of the group. But by the end, cracks begin to form in the group and members begin to find frustration with always trying to fit in and follow the herd. But those who begin to distance themselves from the pack will experience isolation, frustration, and helplessness. Their need to belong to the group but their desire to be individuals is explored through awkward movements and explosions of frustration.

Your help can make our dreams a reality! Please check out our awesome rewards and consider donating any amount to help us get to NYC to perform! All our thanks and gratitude!!!
