Trouble
You Are Here Festival (aka the maze!)
2012 – Brooklyn/Berlin
Project description
Once again, the art duo Trouble seeks to build a gigantic maze into a gallery and book a month of performances inside of it! Yes! The ‘You Are Here’ performance and time-based arts festival (aka the maze) is coming back to NYC at the Secret Project Robot gallery in Bushwick Brooklyn during July of 2012. This year, in addition to presenting in NYC, Trouble has been invited to install the maze at West Germany, a gallery and show space in Kreuzberg Berlin. In order to do so, Trouble is seeking to raise 15 thousand USD to cover material and travel costs!
The ‘You Are Here’ festival, takes place in New York City approximately once every two years. The festival consists of 4 weeks of performance and time-based arts events in a life size maze installation. Trouble, Sam Hillmer and Laura Paris – the art duo responsible for ‘You Are Here’, designs and builds an actual maze into a gallery space accompanied by light, projections, sound, sculpture, and of course, a myriad of performance and time-based arts events!
Many incredible artists are schedule to perform at this year’s maze:
Laurel Halo, Miho Hatori's New Optimisim, Ann Liv Young, Dustin Wong, Hunter Hunt Hendrix, Noveller, Mick Barr, Jack Quartet, Lucky Dragons, JG Thirlwell, Babycastles, Extralife, And many others...
Some artists who have performed at past ‘You Are Here’ festivals include:
Excepter, Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth, Thee Oh Sees, A Place To Bury Strangers, Calvin Johnson, ZS, Dome Theater, Swimming Cities Oceans of Blood, Ugly Duckling Press, Skint, And many others!
Bringing ‘You Are Here’ to other locations, especially abroad, has always been the intention of Trouble! Now there is the opportunity to do so thanks to our collaborators in Berlin EinE Welt Aus Hack, and the gallery/show space West Germany! With your help Trouble can bring the gift of examined community across the Atlantic to Brooklyn’s sister city Berlin!!!
FYI! Trouble is in the process of becoming a not for profit 501c3 organization! All donations will be tax deductible!
See you at the maze!
